Buy the cheapest pile of crap so you can spend thousands
DO NOT use house brand parts from O'Reilley
A paint job turns out just as good with a cheaper spray gun
Buy every G body Monte Carlo in a 40 mile radius
Place your FULL oil drain pan next to the bench grinder
Wait till your neighbors are at work before painting your car in garage
Always stalk craigslist for G body parts that your just going to hoard
NEVER loan out your tools=I have several I never returned
DO NOT work on neighbors vehicles, they'll keep coming back wanting more free work
Make sure you have multiple projects so nothing ever gets finished

My personal rules, some of you may have similar trains of thought.

#1 Have some drying substrate at the ready. Be it dirt, grass, leaves, or kitty litter.

#2 Plan on getting everything everywhere.

#3 Have multiple drain pans.

#4 Freakin use jack stands. Face the lever away from you as to not get caught on anything.

#5 When pulling an engine out of a vehicle with a manual transmission, make sure the damn thing can't roll backwards. Or forwards.

#6 DON'T. WASTE. SHOP. TOWELS. My brother is not allowed to touch my stash of shop towels.

#7 Wipe your *ss off before sitting in the car to see if it works.

#8 Know what gear you're in when you fire up said car.

#9 No burnouts within 5 miles if your house if in a suburban/city environment. If in the country, do donuts in the yard. I don't care.

#10 Put the damn tools back. Don't drop em and leave.

Half these are directed at my little brother.

I think the question is who taught the little brother to be the corrupted person he is....🙄

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, likely more advice than a rule, but I use it as a rule...

If you're working on something and it's not cooperating all the while you start getting pissed...STOP....walk away and breathe for a few. Come back to said issue with a clear mind to avoid really screwing something up, or work on another project and relax some.

My dad(50 year veteran diesel tech) taught my brother and myself that when we were young. It has saved me plenty of times!!!

Yup, that's why I usually have 2 or 3 projects going on the same car at the same time. I like to bounce around- I think the kids call it A.D.D. these days. I call it keeping my sanity.

Following a fresh build and before the test drive:

Torque lug nuts!
Torque lug nuts!!
Torque lug nuts!!!

You only have to lose a wheel once with a Turbo Buick full of friends doing 80km.
