ok so then im going to ditch the whole computer... get the edelbrock carb, now where can i get a cheap distributor that isn't computer controlled, what kind would should i be looking at?

Will an HEI distributor run with the edelbrock carb? eliminating the computer... In opinions, should i eliminate it or keep it?

If you want cheap, get a 1974+ non computer HEI off some Chevy V8 engined vehicle. I think trucks ran without a computer longer than cars did, but the car cutoff is around 1980. The way to tell is that the non computer models have a vacuum advance canister, and the computer ones do not. Now, you can buy a cheap new HEI from companies like Proform, but don't. If you want new, get it from a reputable company like MSD or get a stock one. The cheap ones are only cheap until you use them. In fact, avoiding ANYTHING sold by Proform is a good move. Their stuff is cheap for a reason. That is not to say you can't get a good, bargain priced part from China here and there, but there are good and bad Chinese companies, just like there are good and bad American ones too. Proform parts have bitten a few of us here, including myself. Remember that when a poor quality part fails, it often takes other parts along for the ride.

Ok great info from everyone, Thank you. So what ill do is look for the Non-computer HEI distributor and buy the edelbrock carb from jegs

pro-comp dizzy are crap too, and that what you see on ebay most of the time, you can get a summit brand for about 90 bucks, i haven't had a problem

I have. I bought a new Summit HEI dist for a SBC and about a year later the advance weight pins were worn almost in half! I'm not bashing Summit branded products as I have a bunch or their Summit branded parts. That was the only product I've ever had any problems with. They wanted me to pull it and send it back. I had an old HEI so I pulled it and put the old one back in. No more problems.

Okay let me try to help you clear some of this up. Need to know thw pecs on the cam to see if it will run with the comp. The comp will run with the motor depending on what size the cam is. Also just changing the carb and dist, won't be the only thing you need to do as your trans in computer controlled also. So you need the carb, and dist, for the trans to lock up. You can get around that with a lockup kit. But the easiest thing to do would be leave the comp in and run the orig carb and dist with it. The carb is plenty big enough to run that 383 as it an 800 cfm carb. Which crate motor are you looking at installing and do you already have the motor? If not just pick up the 290 hp gm crate motor as it has been proven to run with the ccc system with no problems at all.

290 hp is way to little, Reason why i got the 383... it has been built and will be shipped in 5 days to my door, the cam is 477/488 lift i think. The company said that a 650cfm is good enough. I want my engine compartment to look clean. Dont want the wires looking the way they do now.

I looked for a lock out kit and cant seem to find any... i have the TH-350 trans. I only see kits for 200r

Summit and jegs both sell the lockup control kit for the 350th Part # is bmm-70244 and is $164.95 through Summit and part# 130-70244 and is $164.99 through Jegs.
