I would get a crate 350/355 SBC and stay under 350 horse and these come with a warranty IMO I wouldn't waste time with a 283.

This ^^
I agree,a 283 would be a waste of time and money and probably no more power than the 305.

Thank you for input. So you think under 350 HP the *ss end could handle it? A little green not really mechanically inclined. What would one expect to pay Canadian on a 350 crate?

By the time you pay all the duties,shipping/handling,core charge,etc.. then add another $ 1-1500.00 for the difference in the dollar.
That would be ballpark guess.Right now the CDN dollar is pretty good compared to the US buck.
If you do think about a GM crate from your local dealer,I would suggest you do plenty of research first.
The quality and warranty are often questionable.
As was suggested above, there might be someone in your area that could help.

Make certain you get a later model block with all of the correct bolt holes, and a mechanical fuel pump provision. A factory roller cam would be ideal for a no hassle start up. I believe you'd be looking for and L98 350 Corvette/IROC or Z28 Camaro/Trans Am) as a good base.

Most of the power is in the heads, so if you can get some Vortec heads you'll be laughing.

Unfortunately none of this bolts on the way we see in our heads. So plan accordingly.

PS. Welcome from the NCR!

If only the ZZ4 was still available, heck the ZZ5 doesn't even seem to be either.

Last I recall reading, the latest was a ZZ6 crate..... Forged steel 3.48"crank. PM rods. Hyper pistons @ 9.7 comp. FastBurn 62cc heads.

Ran a 383 for years with my 86 , no issues, just don't run slicks and hook up with the 7.5 .
Have now swapped out for QP 9" as going with a 427 small block and all QA1 suspension.
Sold the 7.5
