Loud, squeaky knocking noise deffinatly from the bellhousing area. Most prevalent at idle, and when revved the engine seems to be a bit more shaky than it used to, as if it's off balance. Buick 350s are externally balanced, so a damaged flexplate (or harmonic balancer) would make the engine wibble at rpm, one would assume. I'm thinking the flexplate is cracked. Or the bolts have come loose/broken. I've pulled every plug wire, knock still present, so it's not a rod knock. There are no metal bits in the oil. Oil pressure hot at idle is ~25psi, what it's always been. It sounds like it's coming from the flexplate/converter area. I will crawl under there and check tomorrow to see if the flexplate is broken. I've had 2 knocking engines before, none of them have sounded or behaved like this. When my other SBB ate the bearings, and my v6, even with rod knocks they didn't shake. You could obviously feel the knock, but the engine didn't shake left to right. What say you guys?

Here's a link to it:

I have it set as "unlisted", so it's not searchable/viewable to the general public on youtube, unless they have the specific URL for the video or come across it on here.

Cracked flexplate or loose bolts.

Yep. Thanks all for your input. Just spent about 6 hours by myself in the driveway (was nice, 55* today) swapping on a spare flexplate I had. No more noise or weird vibrations. Steady rotation as well.

just a point on safety, have you ever seen a flexplate throw out a broken piece?. I would not venture any where near a flexplate that could be cracked.

Did you find the crack?
I did not see any cracks, but it was definitely bent. It's on the floor in my garage, I may peep at it to try and find some, but I didn't see any when I removed it, none that were obvious anyway.

In my defense, I had on a face shield and was hiding behind the front wheel, but yeah. I get ya.

I was only worried about the camera.....:p
Dollar Store Smartphones. Gotta love em. Got my current one for $30. Go through about 2-3 a year. Still cheaper than the facial recognition crapple ifone 9 or whatever number they're on now.
