i brought a prostart starter from pepboys..it didnt include any shims...

Shoulda gone to AUTOZONE!!!....LOL

Smh bill auto Zone is the reason I went to pepboys...they kept selling me the wrong starter..the problem m having is figuring out how many shims I need

This is craziness. What are the part #'s you got? I'm comin up with 6315 from PB's and 6314 from AZ. What exactly is the problem? When you engage the starter is grinding on the flywheel and not turning the motor, is the gear coming out and stopping not turnin the motor or is the gear just spinning in the starter? Shims move the starter away from the flywheel. Are the teeth good on the flywheel? Get a prybar and turn the flywheel to a diff spot and try starting it.

At work now I checked the #'s. 6315 not listed for the car. It shows 6314 and the metric version 3567M. This is prolly where it's goin wrong. The 3567M is a USA Industries part #, any part store can cross it. If everything is right with the car this should do it.

That's not an Olds starter. The Olds starter goes on the driver's side.

I have the right starter I kno that for a fact it's just missin the flywheel by a half a inch or maybe a whole inch

if it's missing the flywheel (actually it's a flexplate) then you don't have the right starter for that flexplate....but if you insist it's the right starter then you'll need to change the flexplate..
