I have the right starter I kno that for a fact it's just missin the flywheel by a half a inch or maybe a whole inch

if it's missing the flywheel (actually it's a flexplate) then you don't have the right starter for that flexplate....but if you insist it's the right starter then you'll need to change the flexplate..

X2 on this, shims do not adjust for a large gap like that.

car is started...i feel much better..starter was right just needed to mess with the shims til everything fit right

shims pull the starter away from the flexplate so the starter couldn't have been missing the flexplate like you thought....glad you got it worked out tho...

But half shims on the outside bolt only will move it closer. However this whole thing sounds wrong anyway.

I didn't know that...but I doubt you could put much of a shim to angle the starter since the bolts, especially the long one would bind

So I decidedTo take my c at to my buddy's at exclusive customs and we came to the conclusion my flywheel was changed and that's why I'm having so many problems...also my trans has a shift kit and torque converter..I really wish the guy I brought this car from would have told me these things..now we have to find a starter that will fit my car and not grind the teeth on the starter or flywheel..good news is my heads are being potted and polished on the 307..and I have a 350 block at my new house waiting to be built

sounds like you have the 168 tooth flexplate so it shouldn't be that hard find a starter to match it...if you get a starter with duel bolt patterns that will work with the 153 or 168 tooth flexplates...
