I buy the cheapest turd I can find at bi-mart. They work better than the never start brand from Walmart and the customer service is alot better too.

Optima was bought out by Johnson Controls back in 2000. The move to Mexico was obviously a cost-cutting measure, so apparently there have been other cost-cutting measures?

I was going to buy a 6-volt Red Top Optima from a guy on Craigslist. He had gotten it by mistake, he actually needed a 12-volt. They didn't even want it back, so he decided to sell it on CL. I wanted it for my other car which has a 6-volt system. I went to look at it and it had a bent negative terminal and according to my multi-meter, it only had 3.47 volts. So, something told me to pass on it.
He was asking $80.00 for it. It was dated 12/17...just under a year old. I think the low voltage concerned me more than the bent terminal. I know a brand new one goes for around $180.00 +.
I guess I made the right decision by not buying it...🤔

I bet the main reason they moved to Mexico was because of the EPA.

Most coils are made in Mexico too because the laws don't allow them to be made here.

Whatever the problem is I'm not buying a Optima battery if it says made in Mexico my other 2 have been going on for like 5 years and they are good and strong not made in Mexico

Looked at a ton of choices when i needed batteries for my truck. lots of horror stories about warranties, short lifespan, etc on all makes and types. Went back to Motorcraft...100 month pro-rated warranty, 36 month free replacement.
