BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Well, I ain’t gonna blow smoke up your azz or sugar coat it, it ain’t perfect. It’s about what I would consider average or maybe slightly above average for its year and our locale. But compared to many of the other G’s I’ve seen guys on here fixing up, I guess it could be considered a cream puff. No holes in the floors, solid rear framerails, no collision or other damage. Mainly just deep(ish) surface rust.

Kinda surprising really considering how bad some of the outer sheetmetal was.

When I had the engine, trans and diff out I tried to be proactive and coated every inch of the frame I could access with POR15. But as of right now the undersides of the floor pans are still untouched. In general, this car was pretty much just neglected and relegated to daily driver status when I got it.

I’ve been slowly replacing and upgrading the major systems and components as I come across them. Engine, transmission, rearend and front steering components have all been gone through and replaced or upgraded, along with the rear suspension. Only the front control arms and the brakes are still untouched from when I bought it, so that ain’t so bad. I will eventually be doing a full rebuild of the front control arms (bushings, ball joints etc), or replacing them entirely with new stock aftermarket ones.

Any plans for a frame off at some point? That's the #1 thing preventing me from making my dad's car road worthy again. The rear section of the rails are terrible. My intent is to snag a frame from AZ or something, bolt the diff and arms on from the car as they're all aftermarket and not rotted out, reinforce it, paint it, then repair whatever I need to to get the body securely fastened back down. The car won't ever experience anything to make it rot as long as I have it. so the rest of the non-critical rust can wait.

That sounds like a solid plan. If my circumstances were the same I would likely do the exact same thing.

It’s highly doubtful. There’s nothing on the underside that’s bad enough to justify the additional work, and this car was never really intended to be a frame off, full resto build. Just another fun and good looking G body to fill the void until The Juggernaut is done.
Oooooooh the Juggernaut

Uh oh. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.

It’s always a calculated risk when doing paint correction to this extent, I knew that going in. Oh well, it’s only time and material right?

Blend, here we come!

Stop sanding that thing and get on the juggernaut... Killing us here....

Wish I could brother, but my OCD won’t let me start something else until one is finished to my standards/expectations.
😐

You need to be more like me, have no standards or expectations and this thing would be done already😁.
