BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Donovan, sometime when the car is back on stands, would you take and post a big picture view of where your splice is? I'm wondering how much of that brake line can be fished between the body and chassis and where a good place is to split it, flare and put it back together with a union. I may go this way if I don't replace the body mount bushings on my car.

For sure brother, although I don’t know how much you’re actually going to be able to see. The brake line gets quite contorted through there and not much is visible.
The car is currently still up on stands so I’ll snap a picture and post it up tomorrow (Easter dinner tonight).

I've pulled the brake line once and put it back in with the body on the frame - it's relatively easy because the rear of the has only one tricky bend in it. The fuel lines, on the other hand, are a different story - I see no possible way to get them off and back on with the body on. I just removed 3 absolutely perfect lines (not needed) and destroyed them to get them out. I started out with a plan to donate them to someone here that could use them, but I gave up on that plan after having to remove the 3 clamp retaining bolt in the rear crossmember.

Good information. Thank you.

Mine is spliced directly in front of the LCA mount.

Sorry Jared, I had all but forgotten that you had requested this. I was under the car yesterday bleeding the brakes and (finally) got you some pictures. Please excuse the dirt, rusty surfaces and my piss poor POR15 job. No one other than you guys is gonna see any of it anyways.

The union point is just forward of the front lower control arm mount. It’s really the only decent spot to put it with the body still on the frame. After this spot the brake line goes inside the C channel section of the frame up towards the proportioning valve and is nearly impossible to access.

It took a little finagling to get it in there, but the new section of line will go in and out without bending it. We made sure to remove the old line without bending it and used it as a template to form the new one.
Hope this helps.

That is not a D-Spec undercarriage. So when's the body coming off the frame?

You’re not wrong. It definitely isn’t typical of my style, but I’m trying something new: it’s called zero ****s given about what isn’t critical and what can’t be seen anyways. Send it as the boys here like to say.
😂

A frame off really isn’t in the cards for this thing, at least not from me. It doesn’t really need it. I’ll leave that up to the next caretaker of it if’n they’re so inclined. At best, the most this MIGHT still get (and that’s a big “MIGHT”) is a lil rust converter treatment and undercoating or bedliner or other such treatment just to preserve and pretty up the floor pans. But that’s it.

But then again, I’ll prolly just drive it. I’ll leave my unchecked OCD tendencies to The Juggernaut, for it’s my real passion.

It doesn't look like it's gonna fall apart or anything, just out of sight out of mind huh?
