Just not sure how I am going to flange old roof skin where it folds down to meet the roof rail. May have to notch replacement skin in that area so that when I overlap it kinda slides up to it. Then actually weld or braze that area.

Let me expand on this recommendation. We used this stuff to repair the urethane nose on my brother's car. It has some flex to it and has very good adhesion. I have first hand experience with it so I am comfortable with recommending it. Also, no expensive applicator needed. Now, if you are going to put the skin on with panel bonding adhesive (a good way to go in my view - less distortion), then I think that stuff would work well between the brace and skin. As Jack stated, plain old roofing paper would likely work well too.

I am going to look into the 3m stuff you recommend. Probably a lil cheaper. I do have the applicator gun though, and am planning on using adhesive to put on skin. I bought some sem adhesive. Thanks

I recommend flanging pliers. Its what we are using on dad's car.
Look at this on eBay http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335822911&icep_item=352044990911

I have a set of those. It looks like yall are flanging the patch piece on the galaxie instead of the panel itself??? Correct me if I am wrong. My concern is where the roof skin comes over and spot welds to the roof rail. If I am flanging the original skin still on car along the top where replacement will sit, how do I go about flanging where it is still welded to the roof rail? Any advise?

David,
I'm thinking the drip rail would most likely have to be butt welded together. Overlapping that would not work well...or am I not understanding it correctly?
Is the old section of roof rail still attached to the roof?

It does sound a little tricky between flanging the sheet metal and butting the drip rail together.
It's just going to take a bit more care and patience. I have faith in you my friend. 😉
It shouldn't be that bad.

Yes, flange the patch, and treat it as a 'tab' near the edges. You will probably be able to clamp up your repair since it is relatively shallow and the windshield is out. Yes, we are flanging the patches on the Galaxie for the same reason. You can't get the flanging tool in on the edges. Let me know how I can help. I want to.
