So add something like evercoats plastic honey to the filler? Even the tiger hair? I'll probably pick some up when I go to the supply store for quick sheets and some 2k foam for the roof supports. I'm hoping they know what I need, because I'm not sure.
I just use regular fiberglass resin. You can buy small containers probably cheaper than the other stuff. I used the automotive foam on my roof structure. It worked great just don’t use it to quickly. It could create high spots.
This is basically a proof of life post. I'll be honest and admit I was somewhat demoralized when I went to finish the lower rear driver qtr panel. I fugged the metal repair up so bad, I'm pretty sure it has to be redone(or say screw it and finish it). I'm pretty sure everything else on the body is straight. I haven't checked the fenders yet but I didn't have to "repair" them so should be ok.
Looking down on the bottom body line
top body line
the top line is jacked
even goes into the open qtr. About 6" above the body line
it's flat across the panel just above this
To be clear this is the area and pics of me screwing up lol
I think I put the patch in crooked and didn't straighten up the panel enough before burning it in.
I tried to cut it in places and bend it back out, but it just moved the offending high spot(or low, I have no idea tbh) toward the rear of the car. After this shitshow I walked away , and haven't touched the car until today. I think I'm gonna leave the bodywork for now and focus on getting the the engine and Trans put in then put the body back on the frame.
I started with something easy and that I remembered what to do. Clearances for speed engineering headers.
Got some updates- I picked up a couple new used items. Mark at SC&C gave me a great deal of info when we talked the other day. One of the things he talked about is how ineffective the g-body rear sway bar is and how a link style bar is way better. To keep it budget minded I went to the wrecking...

I got the info from this thread a while back.
I'm gonna try to simplify and maybe get a little less ocd on the restart. I wanna get this thing done.
If you do, you pretty much should get GBOTM. Just for following through. Rktpwrd is the only masochist who has pulled it off from the starting place you are in. Thats a pretty exclusive club, and even I failed to get in.
Tbh. Maybe,Not really. I think I'll have to cut out that lower qtr (again) and replace it.
I'm pretty sure the red circled area wasn't pulled out enough by like 1/4" or more. Which caused a high spot (black circles) in the open part of the qtr when I welded the patch in crooked. Also has low spots where the body line starts on the wheel well. I'm on the fence in regards to fix it or fug it. Leaning towards fug it and save for later after the car is back together. Maybe I'll drive it to Alberta with a bag of cash and cutlass parts when it's running lol.
You've done a mountain of great work on this car. Everyone is going to suffer a setback. Have you considered putting a whole quarter on it? It's way easier than patching one and they are available. Just a thought. We put both quarters on my brother's 78 Z28. I wish we could have found some for my Dad's 62 Galaxie. We had to patch them instead and we had some distortion we had to deal with it. Get back on the horse somehow. You've come a long way....
