Sean's 78 Camaro Z28

Should we leave the wheels grey or paint them body color?

  • Leave grey

  • Paint blue to match the body car, the way the car was when new

Sean just doesn't get many opportunities to get the car out. Recently, he took his wife out to dinner to a fancy restaurant and he took her in the car. His daughter's (my niece's) boyfriend works as valet for a cluster of three fancy restaurants, one of which was the one they went to. He (the boyfriend) set up my brother with the prestige spot in front of the restaurants. Sean parked it. He said the Vette was parked behind it later....

I like seeing him enjoy his car and I like that our build got the place of honor. This was last Saturday night. Last Wednesday, Sean did some maintenance on the car. He changed the oil and greased the front end. While under there, he discovered that the sway bar end links had failed at the lower control arm on both sides. I don't know if this is a part failure or if I overtightened them when they were initially installed. I was at work when he made this discovery, but I quickly got him some leads on a replacement set and he got them installed......

And fixed....

Yesterday he washed the car, vacuumed the interior and cleaned all of the glass. It's good to see the car get some attention and to see him enjoy it. Now we just need to find some places for him to drive it!

This car is still my childhood dream. Every update makes me smile.
Building this particular car this way was my brother's dream. I wouldn't trade helping him accomplish it for anything. So many good times with him and some of my best work

I've posted in my truck thread and my Roadmaster thread so I'll post in here, also in the interest of keeping the thread unlocked. There's not a ton to report. He gets the car out when he can to enjoy it. It's been pretty trouble free. Six or Eight weeks ago, we had to charge the A/C back up. It was pretty flat. It's been about 9 years so I'm not real upset about it. We'll see how it's doing next summer when the weather warms up. We also tightened up the parking brake. With it being a manual shift, rear disk car, parking brake adjustment is just a maintenance item. It has the 78-81 Firebird WS6 rear disks on it. It's an unusual (by today's standards) setup with the ratcheting caliper pistons. At this point, I'm pretty far up on the parking brake adjustment. The next time it needs one, I'll need to take the parking brake cables loose at the adjuster and then try to get a ratchet out of each caliper to compensate for the pad wear, then hook the cables back up and readjust. I'm hoping that when that happens, the car is sitting on a 2-post lift in our shop. Other than that, not a lot to report. There's work and projects we want to do to the car but with polishing our current house to get it ready for sale, coordinating the construction details of the new house and shop, and the responsibilities of day-to-day life, there just isn't much time. Once we get settled in at the new place, we'll have fun with it again making some upgrades and refinements. Until then, it's still the same beautiful car that runs and drives well and puts a smile on my brother's face every time he gets it out. Sorry friends, no new pictures on this one. I'm mostly just keeping the thread unlocked.
