So every now and then my 79 cutlass supreme won’t start. It’s been doing this for 2 years now I figured maybe it’s because it’s old but it’s starting to be a hassle. I’ll literally have to wait 30-45mins before it’ll start up again on its own. But initially all it takes is a 5sec jump and it runs and stays on. It never shuts off on me while driving, and it’s not all the time it’ll do this just here and there. Battery is brand new. Alternator is good.

Any ideas ??

does the engine turn over or does it do nothing when you turn the key to start?

When I first try it, the engine will sound like it wants to turn then after it does nothing at all.

Try boosting it next time it won't start and boost it by putting the ground on the engine. If the engine turns over with the boost that will tell you the engine isn't grounded good. If the boost doesn't help your new starter may be defective

You state parts are new, but these symptoms are a two year activity. So the battery is how old? Do you have a meter to measure the battery voltage? How long do you let the car sit between trying to start it?

Sounds like to me the battery just isn't holding the charge and doesn't have the voltage to start the car.

Does it click the solenoid when it doesn't turn the engine over?
