Suck N Blow Monte

"No because I still have not got my wideband gauge working and the Holley monitor was not working either. It was just supposed to be a quick drive. What ever I did when I rerouted my wiring made the monitor worse. "

Uggg. That would be the 1st on the list to get under control. After that, leak check the head(s), make sure the head and deck are flat and ......... go

My vote is new MLS gaskets and upgrage to head studs. Then focus on getting the bugs out of the controller. Enjoy it this summer and save up for future upgrades. You've worked to hard for it to be down for an extended amount of time. Don't forget to replace the steering column seals to keep the smoke under the hood.🤣

Dafuq, man? Get your 2 year old to install the WB02. That is not good.

Next, as mentioned (minimum) put stock GN HGs in there. You got lucky with the fuse. Cometics need specific RAs to seal well, personally I would avoid the hassle. A good sealing (forgiving) MLS is plenty. Clean it up with 220 grit and send it - it is an iron block and heads.

Stay away from modding it, as long as it has good valve springs you'll be fine. Don't get sucked into the "sinceIaminhereanyway".

I bought the PLX used. I bought the multi gauge and the wideband separately. I think it needs a new o2 sensor. I didn't worry too much about it because the Holley controller has a wideband displayed on it. Before rerouting the harnesses the controller would act up once in a while and when it was hot out side. This is the first time I have driven it since the rerouting of the wires. What I did with the routing made the problem worse. I guess now I can try that idea again. I think I will just do headgaskets and studs and let it eat again. My knock gauge is a little shady too. I did find a nut laying by the knock sensor. After I removed that, when I drove it I did not see the gauge go past two lights. The down side to the Holley Sniper is, there is no way to use a knock sensor.

Would the velcro on heat insulation help your wiring for the Holley?

Not sure I have seen that stuff before? I am thinking it is not a heat issue like I thought, but a interference electrical. Probably the MSD distributor. Chris said it was not recommended with the Sniper. Kind of my only option with my setup unless I want to setup a crank trigger.

I have been chipping away at getting my car fixed. Seems like everyone and everything in my life have been needy lately. Hard to find time to work on it. Almost have all my parts to put it back together. Me and Fedup ****ed up last week. One of my packages with my headgasket said it was delivered Thursday, but it wasn't. I called Fedex Saturday to find it. That was not much good. A neighbor a few miles away had it delivered to them Saturday afternoon. They were nice enough to bring it over. Opened the box and found Rockauto sent me the wrong intake gasket and I only ordered one headgasket instead of two. The block is ready to go.

Kind of a cute little fart. For such a little engine it sure does make some power. I have been cleaning up and repainting engine parts. Heads and intake are ready to go.

Valve covers turned out good.

They were kind of a c*ck to mask though.

I painted the headers with some grill paint. Supposed to be good to 1500*. We will see how long that last.

Looks like I get to sand and repaint my air cooler again.

Yesterday when I painted it, it fisheyed. I tried hitting it with another coat tonight and that happened. Kind of boring stuff, but it has been kind of quiet around GBF so I posted it.

I've been Fedex'd like that as well. They have a contract that they guarantee delivery in a certain time frame, so fudging that the item has been delivered keeps there on time rate above the minimum acceptable level. I've learned to live with it - it usually happens with Amazon for me.

I'll bet that intercooler's aluminum has decades of garbage absorbed into it meaning that it's almost impossible to get all of the contaminants off rom it which creates terrible adhesion for your paint. Looks like a great place for sticker on the hot side elbow that says 'blow me' and on the other that says 'thank you' ( 🙂 ) .

X2 on quiet, but I love this motor and setup - holy moly UNIQUE ! All things turbo and whooshy sounds are better than OK by me. Can you here the turbo and blow off valve much? And did I miss t that you have your O2 sensor under control or a plan?

Glad to see it going back together Zach!

Just a little tip to make your life easier if you have to redo your valve covers again, next time just paint them all over, complete. Then take a little lacquer thinner on a clean rag or towel and wipe the paint off the tops of the fins. Q-tips dipped in lacquer thinner works equally as well, that’s what I use to do mine. Or you could sand the fins with some coarse sandpaper, but that tends to just clog up the paper.

It’s way less frustrating than trying to mask them all off ahead of time.

Looking forward to seeing you get it back together!

Just seen : ' The down side to the Holley Sniper is, there is no way to use a knock sensor.'

If you don't have the knock sensor tied into your timing system to back out the timing immediately, then they are not really worth much other than a warning that you'll be puking the wrong color smoke that will be visible by the time you look in the rear view. I used an aftermarket with a Megasquirt that worked pretty well, but tuning it was a giant PITA due roller rockers. Knocksense was the brand - a dude in Canada makes them.

I know the feeling of wanting to let it rip though. But creeping up on the tune will keep you from needing another set of head gaskets lol.

A video of this thing in action would be great if you can pull it off.
