For pre '81 cars the ECM may be mounted inder the dash in one of the limited space areas on the passenger side. So if there's not a two piece kick panel you'll know where to look. This could vary by build date based on when GM started the ECM kick panel.Yeah, that build sheet is a find. It says: NB1 Closed Loop Emissions, NB2 California Emissions System. That means it came with an ECM (and TPS) from the factory. The ECM would be inside the passenger side kick panel -- if it's still there, that is.
If you live in California, the car must be smogged before the title can change hands, even if you live where there's no smog otherwise. Since that's a California car, it needs all the California parts before it can pass smog.
Or cut wire.there should be a check engine light on with a missing TPS, perhaps the previous owner fixed that with removing the bulb
You are 100% correct when I went to DMV and paid the $55 transfer fee they said it must be smogged again even though it was smogged less than 6 months prior. Maybe the guy I bought it from had no idea about the tps but he was adamant that my setup did not require it either way give me a good deal only paid $1,000 for the car, I have already done all the body work I still got a block a few places get the vinyl replaced on top, very little interior work although I've started doing the instrument cluster and other odds and ends like pulling the chrome polishing it up and getting the little bit of rust off. It's all original with everything on there. Except of course the bumper fillers, and the hood ornament, bezels and one of the center caps on the hubcap which I ordered and received along with the headlight bezels. Just recently found accompanied that has the bumper fillers in stock $500 for both front and back. I'll post pics in about an hour. Thanks for all your help and knowledge it is greatly appreciated!Yeah, that build sheet is a find. It says: NB1 Closed Loop Emissions, NB2 California Emissions System. Hey jiho good morning. So I basically forwarded the correct info that you gave me and then he sends me back this. See attachment. What's this guy trying to say? Probably that my car doesn't require a TPS.You are 100% correct when I went to DMV and paid the $55 transfer fee they said it must be smogged again even though it was smogged less than 6 months prior.
