Is the fan, water pump, and harmonic balancer the only things I remove to get to the timing chain cover ?

"Research has shown that steel can expand anywhere from .006 to .007% in heat of 100 degrees. This isn’t just an inconvenience – it can represent a major safety concern."

So about 250-350°F for about 30 minutes should expand/swell the tip to get it off...

Try the lower end of that heat range for 20mins. See what happens. Go from there.

Nope, still slips and spins in the vice grip...

mikester no i didn't grease the threads or inside of the tip...
Well.... Heat it up more & see what happens. Probably jacked up the threads & why it's not coming apart. No amount of heat will help if the threads are jacked. Eventually it will just snap off instead.

You've now learned the importance of using anti-seize on threads before tightening any hardware that requires serious effort to tighten; most things that have fine threads, & anytime dis-similar materials are threaded into each other. Anti-seize is not a guarantee it won't possibly still happen but it drastically reduces the chances.

Yes.

Also, after looking at my vice grip teeth, I see it really doesn't have any teeth to bite and actually grip any thing...

Why do you need a repair sleeve for the balancer ? You have a new cover with a new seal. Didnt you buy a new balancer ? You put a little grease in the balancer so when it gets pressed back into the cover it wont screw up the seal on the cover. Use anti seize on the balancer bolt and torque it to 60-65 ft lbs

Autozone loaner tool program has them. Make sure you use the correct end for the crank threads. Also put lube on the threads so nothing galls. If they gall youre going to have a big problem.
As far as running the motor that way, personally I wouldnt do that but I do things my own way.

Two of my comments mentioned the importance of lube/anti seize on threads but what do I know ? Live and learn I guess. SMH

Ok how about this ? ProForm 66515 Harmonic Balancer Installation Tool

Amazon has one in a damaged package for $20

Says the threading on the small block end is 7/16-16, not 7/16-20 like the Autozone loan tool..

Which thread size is correct ?
