That's what I have already from Autozone. Thanks for the heads up about galling... I'll be sure to do that.Autozone loaner tool program has them. Make sure you use the correct end for the crank threads. Also put lube on the threads so nothing galls. If they gall youre going to have a big problem.
As far as running the motor that way, personally I wouldnt do that but I do things my own way.
True, your right, I could just bolt everything back up and fire it up then...once the balancer is on, it's downhill from there installing everything else...Personally I would get the front drive back on before running it to check for leaks. If we are placing bets, I would say if you are going to get a leak it will not be within the first few minutes idling in the garage. Second you are talking what maybe an hour at most to reinstall the front drive and fill it with coolant over the chance of overheating a cylinder. Either way report back on your test, I am keeping my fingers crossed it does not leak.
I can keep caking up this RTV on the timing cover and front of oil pan in that down time too.True, your right, I could just bolt everything back up and fire it up then...once the balancer is on, it's downhill from there installing everything else...
I just won't have the fan in the mail until Friday or Saturday...maybe Thursday...to have completely installed everything...on the engine.
Caking layer upon layer probably isn't going to do much for you. What makes the biggest difference & that was suggested was to get the front end of that motor as clean as possible.I can keep caking up this RTV on the timing cover and front of oil pan in that down time too.
Gotcha, yea I cleaned the area real good before laying any RTV down.Caking layer upon layer probably isn't going to do much for you. What makes the biggest difference & that was suggested was to get the front end of that motor as clean as possible.
Clean surfaces allow adhesion. Dirty/oily surfaces don't.
If the initial layer doesn't adhere & seal a breach, none of the additional layers being added on top of a layer that's not sealing will do much if any good.
Yes, I'm familiar with how to use it correctly...Are you sure youre putting that together right ? The 7/16 piece threads into the end of the crank. Then the large threaded shaft goes on and the long bolt gets threaded into the piece already threaded into the crank. The nut and thrust washer need to be a little loose when you do it. When the bolts in tight then you thread the large nut down to push the balancer in while youre holding the end with a smaller wrench so it doesnt spin.
