Tips for changing intake manifold

I think Ill try to run to the auto parts store later. Pontiacgp, I'll see if I can find ARP studs for my Qjet. Right now I'm trying to get this guy off:View attachment 63000
Got all the old intake bolts and stuff off and put on the new one. This thing is in there tho. Like, really in there haha. I've tried regular sockets and open ended wrenches. No avail. I've gone up to a breaker bar, and even then I put a long 1inch pipe over the handle for extra leverage, but it won't even budge. I'm considering just buying a new one from an auto parts store if they have it. That's how bad it's stuck haha

you don't need the ARP if they have something less $$$. I just posted that picture as an example. To get that fitting out get a torch and apply heat. I bet now you can understand why it'd be easier taking those fittings out with the intake still installed

Yea haha, it'd be nice to have it in a fixed position while I torque on it

Anyone know what these might be for? I bought all the parts for the job a while ago, and I can't even remember what these are for. I think they came when I bought the intake gaskets, water neck gasket, and carb gasket

I wouldn't spend too much time on that heater nipple. Wasn't a new one included with your new manifold?

Sadly no haha. Just the manifold itself

The black ones go on the front and rear of the intake. Ditch them use permatex on the ends.
Make sure you put a little extra in the corners

the blue circle is goes between the intake and distributor

the metal ones are for the egr crossover

So I have 4 things:
Permatex Black RTV
Permatex Indian head gasket shellac compound
Permatex Copper antiseize lubericant
Permatex thread sealant with PTFE

What goes where? What do I put on the intake gasket? What goes on the water neck gasket? Which bolts need antiseize?

Thanks!

Any bolt you don't put the sealer on I put the anti seize. For the intake gaskets 1/2 the people say you put them on dry and the other 1/2 will say silicone in certain areas

Use a 1/4" bead of RTV at the front and rear of the intake. Use thread sealant for bolts going into the valley or into water jackets, or for pipe plugs or fittings. Normally the gaskets between the head and intake are installed dry. You could use a little RTV at the water passages if the surface of the head casting around them is pitted.

Thanks guys 🙂
