Tips for changing intake manifold

He's talking about the fuel filter housing. Use one wrench to hold the big but in place while you break the little one loose. Another option is to simply cut the fuel line a few inches from the carb as it won't line up with new intake. Get an inline filter and some 3/8" rubber fuel line and put in the cut

It will cost you a few days on schedule, but if you want stainless you could go with ARP. You won't have to worry about breaking them. Be sure to use anti-sieze on any stainless fasteners that you don't use thread sealant on.

As far as bolts I have ARP stainless right now mainly for looks but most of the time I use grade 8 yellow zinc (gold) fasteners on everything bolted to the engine including the intake.
I typically get my bolts from a fastener place near me

Thank you guys for the advice on the bolts. I have ARP bolt so for the intake. It's just all the other bolts like the ones that hold misc brackets, the carb, etc. so ARP is the way to go? I'll hit up an auto shop later maybe

carb studs would be great to but not sure if they have them for Q-Jets? Don't want to tighten the carb bolts to tight and strip the threads. Just a thought

For all the accessory brackets and such I always wire wheel the factory parts and hit them with a coat of clear or flat black paint. 565bbchevy also has a great suggestion to use grade 8 yellow zinc fasteners.
If you are using the Q-Jet carb, stick with the factory bolts.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

if you have a cast iron intake stock bolts are ok but with an aluminum intake, as 406 Monte suggested, I like studs so you don't have the chance to damage the aluminum threads

I think Ill try to run to the auto parts store later. Pontiacgp, I'll see if I can find ARP studs for my Qjet. Right now I'm trying to get this guy off:

Got all the old intake bolts and stuff off and put on the new one. This thing is in there tho. Like, really in there haha. I've tried regular sockets and open ended wrenches. No avail. I've gone up to a breaker bar, and even then I put a long 1inch pipe over the handle for extra leverage, but it won't even budge. I'm considering just buying a new one from an auto parts store if they have it. That's how bad it's stuck haha
