What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Over the weekend, I took the headlight doors off the 85, taped them off, scuffed them, and shot some black satin back on them:

Also, got my groundstraps on the motor, mounted the coil, wired the coil, TRIED installing the oil dipstick tube to no avail, and just generally got frustrated and down and out about both cars......I can't work on either one because of money (getting the 87 going, and general maintenance issues on the 85)....

For the last week or so I've been fighting my 200 4Rs. On one hand, I'm a cheap b*st*rd and I really do like earning my education. On the other hand, I now totally understand why so many guys opt to just buy a custom built transmission and just bolt it in and go.
Here's a brief history:
Transmission #1 was pulled from a VERY well maintained, low mile '89 Caprice that was involved in a frontend collision. Instead of just installing it as-is (like I should have) I ordered a shift kit with .471 boost valve, replaced the stator support and tossed in a 2200 stall converter. I was rewarded with pressures that made little sense and shift points that were not where they should be. I contacted the shift kit manufacturer with my pressure readings and they indicated my pump is weak.
Transmission #2 was pulled from an '86 Parisian. It turned out to be a KC code which I understand has one of the more desirable valvebodys. I decided to just get another transmission and throw it in unaltered. This would allow me to make it to a show next weekend (250 miles away) and give me time to figure out what's up with #1 later. Replaced the filter and installed #2 trans with it's matching converter. It shifts late and slips in 2nd. Fluid smells really burnt. It hasn't been more than 100 yards from my house. URG!! The only upside is that #2 only cost me $70 and still has a warranty so at least I can exchange it.

At this point it looks like I'll be using the valve body (KC) from trans #2 in trans #1 along with a rebuilt pump. That will give me new pump, new converter, stock KC shift map, in a better maintained later transmission. Then I'll return #2 for either an exchange or yard credit. I'll either keep the kitted valvebody or just remove the parts and keep them on the shelf.

...my back is so sore.

Put it to work hauling home a glass top for new table in the dining room.
Then I drove the Ol lady to a fish Fry at the Disabled American Vet's charity lunch.
Had a mini show and shine about 30 cars and bikes. Nice afternoon. 8)

Nothing better than taking a decent cruise to go pick up something off craigslist (or where ever)

Installed the trunk popper that I grabbed from the yard over the weekend. Easier to install than it was to temove from the other car.

Is that what the unconnected orange wire behind the glove box is for?

cleaned, prep'd, masked, and painted my intake

wanted to use VHT Cast Iron Gray, but turns out it's not available in Canada. So ended up using Duplicolor Cast Coat Iron. Tried it on my water pump, came out decent, so decided to do the same for my intake. One can did the whole thing, it was very tricky painting under the air-gap

Removed firebird TBI and rebuilt and installed a newly machined 46mm with adjustable fuel regulator set to 15 psi. Thing is mean as hell. Had a small amount of fuel seepage at the fuel meter outlet. Compared my job to the factory monte carlo TBI and mine looks sloppy in comparison. Getting a rebuild kit and do it again. This is going to be awesome!

the sickest mod ive thought of yet:

Probably not, that may be for something else. if your car doesnt have it, chances are, the wires are not there either.

You will be happy with that paint. I used the same color from Duplicolor to paint my engine, transmission pan, and rear diff pan all about 2 years ago and its still holding up great. All I did was wipe everything down with thinner and spray it.
