I stripped down the GN axle. It's off to the sandblaster Friday morning. Once it's back and painted, I can think about $400 of new ring and pinion plus installation kit.

I don't know what i envy more, your car or your garage lol. All kidding aside Rodney, your work is most impressive and you have definitely inspired me to get back to work on my malibu. I will post pics of my progress.

are you going to weld the axle tubes to the center section? I plan on doing it when I rebuild my 442 8.5 with a 30 spline trutrac..

I thought the center section was cast iron and not weld-able, but then again, I know the tubes are plug-welded after pressing, so maybe I'll give it a shot. I got a deal on an Auburn limited slip for a 1988-1998 10 bolt truck axle (542-022), with side gears for 30-spline axles. Moser or Superior offers 30-spline axle shafts for the GN application. I researched R&P installation kits and the one I chose lists both the 8.5 Regal and the aforementioned half-ton truck model years. So - fingers crossed - it will drop in. Going with 3.73s when the piggy bank gains back a little weight after the holidays. I have to cut the brake tabs down and redrill to fit the Camaro backing plates, then bomb the whole thing with POR-15.
