What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

You could always do what the butcher that previously owned my coupe did, and make your own holesView attachment 78674 View attachment 78675

This is why my OCD self wants to change the frame....now I'm thinking maybe reshape and weld some plate in the holes

Also got a laugh out of the grade 8 engine mount through-bolts, but no bolt where the steering shaft attaches to the box:doh:
That is ugly. The same guy must have owned my car. He didn't want to be troubled with the motor mount bolts so he welded the mounts to the frame. Here is his approach to solving the clutch rod rubbing the firewall because the equalizer (z-bar) had a mile of slack in it......

Nice work. While it's fresh in your mind, what type of setup did you use to get on the backups (nuts) inside the frame? I put new mounts on mine while I had the control arms off. I went back with stock replacement mounts (Anchor). I recently saw pagrunt had a bad time with the same mounts. He couldn't get the bolt holes in the upper clamshells to match up with the new lower mounts. He had to break the lower mounts loose, set the engine down, stab the motor mount bolts through the clamshells and lower mounts, and then tighten the lower mounts back to the frame. I'm worried I'll have to do the same.
Sorry guys, I've been out in the garage putting a new bedside on my pickup. What I noticed on the energy mounts is there are 4 metal tabs sticking out of the urethane mount. The upper two tabs needed to be ground down about 1/8" per side to fit into the upper mount. The upper mounts I'm using are the factory Monte ones as the Impala LT1 mount actually sat back further on the passenger side for AC mount clearance. I used new metric 10mm 10.9 bolts, lockwashers and locknuts. The two upper bolts fit snugly in the frame and clamshell, all were tightened before the engine was set down. Like I said, my only hang up was the tabs that stick out of the mount itself, the tabs on the original rubber mount were slightly shorter than the lower tab. To get the bolts back in the frame with the control arms on, the uppers I was able to use a box wrench with a piece of electrical tape holding the bolt in the hole where the fuel lines originally ran, ( same hole on driver side) the lowers I used a couple of 6" 3/8" extensions with a 17mm crowfoot (on the new bolts, the old ones were 15mm) with the bolt taped into the crowfoot. That and a flahlight shining down the hole I needed to fish the bolt into. It took a couple attempts per side and copious amounts of swearing to get it done-Mike

were you able to use the original motor mount position on the left side? did you have to drill new holes for the right mount, or were there factory holes to use?

Joe, there are holes on the passenger side that line up with the original g-body upper bucket in the original position. I do need to weld a tab on that bucket to at least use one bolt to support the rear of the AC compressor.

thanks for the response. i didn't know the it was physically possible to use the g-body mounts and locations with an lt-1 and keep the factory a/c comp location.

Good idea. The Cutlass won't see much water if any, unless I get caught out in a pop up shower, but cheap insurance to protect electrical gremlins from showing up!
Dielectric grease for the win!
