Friday night I went drag racing for the first time. Legally. Eddyville Raceway Park in Iowa. Best time was 10.35... at 72mph in the eighth. :p
All my times were 10.35-10.4, outlier being that 10.9.
You can really feel the car start to pull about 3/4 the way down the track, but from a stop i'm basically leaving at idle from the 1200 converter and I don't have the gear to launch the way I want. Car starts to want to push through the brakes as well. I can run the whole 1/8 mile in 1st gear, I'm at 5400 at the lights. Kinda funny. That's what happens I guess when you have 2.41 gears.

This video is my 3rd, and slowest run (10.9 @ 65, left it in drive) and I still won. Poor ranchero.

Also I bought an advance curve kit from the parts store (after spying one on the shelf, the clerk had no idea what I was talking about. "Hi, I'm looking for a curve kit for an HEI distributor." "Durr... we gots some distreebutors in the back." "Uh, no. Just need the curve kit. Y'know, the weights and springs?" "Uhhhhh.... *blank stare*". Walked around the store, found a Mr. Gasket curve kit hanging on the shelf about 5 feet from him. No price tag, no item number, nothing. It's probably the only one they've ever sold, and probably the last one they'll sell.) and brought my total timing in a bit from 3400 to 2800. Car is snappier but lord it needs some gear.

Lastly, I finally got around to putting my T wheels on and cleaned up. They look mighty nice. Coopers are nice and quiet and grippy. I'm keeping the steels, for sittin around/winter wheels.

Finished running the main cable to the trunk mounted battery, timed my distributor, crossed my fingers, and started it up! Ran great. Burped the cooling system, couple minor carb adjustments. I keep sneaking back out to the garage and starting it again. It sounds so good!

What fan set up is that ? F-body?

I pulled all the spark plugs and found another oil fouled one.... different hole than the last time. Valve stem seals are in my very near future as soon as the Two Terrors' baseball seasons end in a few weeks. I already ordered the seals. Now I'm lining up the tools.

Before you remove the spring you can check to see if it is a valve guide that is the problem, if the valve can move sideways then the valve guide is worn and changing the seal won't help.

Saturday I drove the Grand Prix to work. While there, I opened the hood to show off the engine to a new co-worker. As I was giving him the tour, I was alarmed to discover the distributor gasket was leaking oil onto my intake valley (Air Gap manifold). After work, I drove to my friend Mike's house, where I pulled the distributor and replaced the gasket with one of the new ones he had lying around.

So far, so good.
