I learned early on, chrome won't get ya home! I used an aluminum piece for years with no issues!!!
i never liked that cover from the day after i installed it but i never had a reason to tear it all apart because it's the first piece in and it's a bit of work until it started to leak.

I started on switching the heads today but I forgot that with the serpentine system one bolt is hidden behind the ps pump reservoir. The headers are off, intake is removed, rockers and push rods are removed. I was hoping to have the heads off and the valve springs changed but I'll try to finish it up tomorrow. I rented the tool when I got back in town but the GP is 40 minutes away and I think it's time beer and burgers ....:)

I went to my buddy's place after work, so we could put his HP Tuners on to check my fan operation. They don't come on high speed with AC call. No dice. Now, I have to double check the pinouts on the PCM and see if there's a max AC call wire I need to energize as the G only has one signal wire. AC still isn't working; I need to check for a leak or put it on a reclamation machine for a proper charge.
On the way, I aired it out, dusting off an LS430 that was riding my *ss.

Seems my rad decided it’s a good time to spring a leak. Guess that’s my que to upgrade the entire cooling system finally lol. Yay. Going electric fans. And bigger rad. Can’t wait.

Went to the VAE Fathers day car show at Shelburne Museum. Non judged, just categorized by decade of mfg.
Nice show in a beautiful setting, took the Cutlass and had a great day.
First time out with the new shoes.
Only other G-body was a really clean Elco that had been restored.

Finished running the main cable to the trunk mounted battery, timed my distributor, crossed my fingers, and started it up! Ran great. Burped the cooling system, couple minor carb adjustments. I keep sneaking back out to the garage and starting it again. It sounds so good!

I got one head changed to day, I cut the lawn at my son's place, which is a 3 hours job, before working on the car so I had a late start. Kinda warm cutting that grass in 90 degree weather with no breeze to cool me off so I had a quick swim in their salt water pool before I attacked the GP....anyway I got the drivers side head removed, had to remove the ps pump to get a one bolt for the surpentine bracket bolt. I changed the valve springs from my old head to the new head. The springs on the new head surprised me as to how soft they were compared to the springs that GM matched to the roller cam in the ZZ4 engine. I got the new head installed and ps pump pulley back on. Got the bolts torqued to 125 lbs so they shouldn't fall out.......here's a picture of the heads, the new one really look like they don't have any miles on them. And I was just joking, bolts are torqued to 65 lbs

old heads, the picture doesn't show it too well but you can see the oil on the intake valves...

I pulled all the spark plugs and found another oil fouled one.... different hole than the last time. Valve stem seals are in my very near future as soon as the Two Terrors' baseball seasons end in a few weeks. I already ordered the seals. Now I'm lining up the tools.
