Worked on getting the header panel to fit a bit better. If anyone is looking into the Classic Industries header panel its kind of a piece of crap. At least they had great customer service after they sent me rear bumper in error. All the factory mounting provisions would be nice...... PITA But Ill make it work the best I can

Reminds me of when we were at that point with the build on my brother's 78 Z28. I initially wanted to buy the fiberglass reproduction header panel or bumper cover. I'm glad we fixed the rough old original piece.

I wish i fixed the factory one. This has been a headache

I bought headers for the 88mc before engine swaps then after buying the 87SS parts car I ditched the headers for the stock SS exhaust using the manifolds and Y pipe off the SS along with the cat rockauto had a new center pipe got mufflers and gaskets coming from auto zone and going to reuse the tailpipes from the SS hope to finish it Saturday

Hit more snags with the reverse light and now back up camera, since the back up camera and DVR didn't come with instructions I am waiting to hear back on if how I think it should be wired is how they say to do it for both. Then realized the 6x9's are blown, also waiting on a warrantied pair to come from California

Your post in the build thread inspired me to source another Driver's side mirror for my car. I have what you just did in my future. I'm assuming you will prime/paint it partially disassembled and leave the mirror glass in it?

Yep, that’s the exact plan Jared.

I stripped off all the old paint on both halves last night after carefully masking off the actual mirror. Both parts will be painted split apart, I just mocked up the two with the screws inside the base for ease of photographing.

As said before, the mirror and cable assembly isn’t easily disassembled, so those parts will be masked off when it comes time for actual paint. Painting inside the upper housing will be fun/interesting with the glass in place, I’ll be having to continually move the glass around while spraying to try and get coverage in all the crevices.

Donovan,

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll do the partial disassembly and the soul annihilating sanding but will likely outsource the painting to the guy who painted Sean's Camaro and is painting Dad's Galaxie. I have a deck lid wing, a 'remote control' passenger mirror and a front bumper cover that will all need painted anyway. Can I do it? Yes. To my satisfaction? Probably not.
