Today I got the Ramrod 350 installed. The transmission proved too stubborn to go on now pending some more research. The engine went in like butter but I could not snug down the transmission. 4 of 6 bolts went in fine, the the right side bottom 2 were binding on something. I had it on and off several times and it just would not go home. The idea was to get the engine in, so I pushed the transmission to the side for now and with the help of my assistant, got it done. The mounts are bolted down, and though it is a snug fit, it is finally in! While we were at it, we replaced the final two radiator body mounts. Any ideas for why my transmission decided to hang up? TH 350C on a 68 engine? Is there some mismatch there with the torque convertor. Is there only one way the flexplate can go on?

I posted this in the wrong forum;

I finally cleaned and prepped the front frame with the KBS system and painted with the Red Rust Seal to keep the rust from a minimum until I've pulled the body, completed the frame reinforcement, rear notch, etc. I have the black KBS topcoat but might apply a different color when complete.

The suspension is the SpeedTech Performance Track-Time system with the Chicane update and Viking double adjustable coil-overs. I'm using the SpeedTech\ATS front spindles with Wilwood C6 brakes. I'm waiting on a SpeedTech\Sweet Man Steering box to arrive to complete the front suspension and steering enough so I can roll the frame out from under the body.

I just set the rotor and caliper on to see how it would look.

This may be a dumb question but, did you make sure that your torque converter is seated all the way? When the converter is slid into the Trans you need to play with it until it has bottomed completely (generally 3 audible clunks).

The torque convertor was never off, but I did NOT get it seated as you say. Another day. I want to change the filter while it is out anyway. The fluid was still red but it is a good precaution. I really wasn't sure how I was going to get the spline started with the engine still in the air above the mounts anyway. I had assistance from my wife, but lowering 700 lbs gently with a rented hoist was not simple.

Went into the garage uncovered the 403.

Bolted on the oil filter mount/pickup

Looked at it walked away and came back inside.

I finished up the wiring today and filled the transmission, installed the O2 and the Fast ecu and tested the fuel system and no leaks. Opened the bleeder on the throw out bearing for the clutch and there was no air. Just about ready to put back on the ground so it'll be nice to see how the back end looks with the new springs and the spring perches finally in their right spot. .... 🙂
