What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

Spent some time in the garage. The aftermarket lower door panels that I am installing are not as sturdy as I would have liked. I installed the one on the driver side last weekend, it has thick plastic "washers" for the two main screws that hold it behind the armrest/door pull. I felt good about those, but when I pull the door closed, it feels flimsy with the two small screws going straight down. I do not want to tear up the plastic getting the door closed, so I went to Lowe's and bought a 12x18 piece of 16ga sheet metal and made two brackets to strengthen the door pull.

This is both a test fit and drilling of additional holes to hold in position while putting the new panel on.

Now my trusty little 1/4x20 1/2inch bolts that will keep it in place.

Lined up and ready for the panel.

Drilling the holes for the vertical screws.

I took care of strengthening the driver door first before I thought to get some pictures.
That is where it is currently at. Weather forecast for tomorrow is showers and wind. We'll see if I run the speaker wiring tomorrow or not, and finish the panel installation

Pulled the car seats out of the TBSS to put in the wagon only to come to an epiphany: I cannot run a booster in the wagon for my oldest thanks to only having lap belts. FFS.

The limits in Ontario for no booster are 8 years old, over 4'-9", and over 80lbs. As I understand it you only need to satisfy one criteria. Over oldest is 7, 48"+, and about 65lbs - her head is about half above the seat back.

However, from what I've read classic cars who are unable to meet the shoulder belt laws are exempt. Now I just have to confirm this with our local OPP detachment to avoid getting my pee-pee slapped for negligence.

Needless to say Natasha went into full blown over protective Mama-bear mode and became somewhat irrational at the jeopardy I was exposing her baby too. I may just install some camlock Jr. Dragster harnesses.

So here's another thing I just learned about belts, and it is better served here than in my build thread. Turns out that if you mini-tub your car the tubs can press against the cover/webbing and cause the mechanism to bind. I always thought they were just faulty.

Nope. User error.

So I added a washer to shim them up a hair and popped the cover's lip out to keep it from pressing into the webbing.

Important to have properly functioning seat belts for the precious cargo.

Adjusted the position of the radio so it looks better and then I was chasing electrical issues I was going to put the windows down to test my remote locking and windows closing but drivers window would not go down, turned out the bad the wire convection broken at the switch, fixed that so before putting the facia back on after adjusting the position of the radio I tested the alarm system and the windows would not go up when locking to doors. I tested the brain that puts the windows up and that checked out and when I ground the wire that activates the brain to put the windows went up it worked so just had to check the orange wire to the brain for the alarm and found the problem so that was fixed. I put everything back together and then the car would not start, the tach wasn't working and that was killing the signal to the efi brain. Took the panels under that dash off to see it I pinched the wire and everything looked good so I dropped the steering column to get the fascia off and then remove the panel with the gauges. I looked the wires for the tack and they all looked good. Fired up the GP and played with the wires to the tach and no problems so put the gauge panel back in and started the GP again. I left the fascia off and the panels under the dash so I can put it back together with fresh eyes in case I missed something today. After that I installed the dash cam while having a beer.....

You can never be too safe. Mines 11 and has ridden on a lap belt only in "the big, green couch" for a minute. I'm a horrible parent.

So just exactly how many beers does it take to install a dash and did you observe social distancing while consuming them? (Snigger, snigger)
