What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

Not sure, the master cylinder still has plenty of brake fluid in it, pedal just suddenly went to the floor and won't pump up.

Scared me enough to just overhaul the system. I don't trust the "powermaster" brake booster for one thing, and the lines look pretty rusty.

Still has a PowerBastard, eh?

Yeah, that's not the shop's fault. Those things were timebombs when new. Put a vacuum set up on it and call it a day.

Took the Cutlass for a quick cruise to see if I fixed the IAC whistle. Bad news and bad news, didn't fix the whistle and I lost both front center caps! They snap in, but the wheels were hot to the touch!!!!
Anybody have an idea what would make the wheels really hot. My temp gun was measuring them at 145°F, and the rotors were only 10° warmer. The rear wheels were cooler, and I even checked my brother n laws wheels as he'd just pulled in...they were significantly cooler. The brakes are working fine, don't seem to be dragging at all. Kinda weird really. Now I get to order more caps which aren't cheap, and some more decals 😡!!!!!

145° isn't hot for brakes, if the brakes are not hot they don't work. Do some hard braking and they'll be over 200°. If you are usinfg ceramis pads they do not aborb heat so that heat gets transferred to the other brake components. That is the main reason I stay away from ceramic pads, I like pads to stay hot.

Hmmm, I'll check into it. I was doing normal cruising, nothing extreme. Makes me wonder if my electric vacuum pump is being a burden.

you're not kidding....😵

I like my manual brakes.. 🙂

Yeah I decided to go hydroboost it was more expensive but almost everyone seems to agree it's the best setup for a turbo car to replace the powermaster.

I've seen a lot of vacuum brake setups but I think hydro will work better.

What kind of master cylinder did you use for manual brakes? Does it take a lot of effort to stop? I drove a 69 cutlass S one time with manual drums all around. Talk about bad brakes, I assumed being manual had a lot to do with it.

I use the Chrysler, the same one we used in our G and F body circle track cars. The 16 yo skinny kid who drove the cars never had a problem locking up the brakes. Drum brakes work very good but not many kept them adjusted properly. Tractor trailors were still using all drum brakes not that many years ago.
