Now it's time for the REAL fun part 🤣 . Surface Rust Clean Up.

Core Support got a fresh coat of paint on top after 2 coats of VHT. Battery Tray is now rust free and coated.

Now for the challenge. I can't for the life of me remember what the protective guard piece I took off underneath is called, but its off and I have wired brushed and sanded all this you see here away, it is Rust treated for protection but I am going to have to get more Truck Bed Coating.

Mostly all I see is surface rust, much of this at least in the front I have gotten too.

I had to go to a mandatory Employee meeting today, thus it cut in to allot of my time I wanted to get started on the underside. I am blessed this surface rust is all I have to deal with. I am aiming to get this done before I send it back to the shop for the stock 350 engine swap in October (Planned Date at the earliest).

Body is slowly getting clear coated. But today the paint is just giving me a fit with so many fixes I have go back and take care of. I stopped to cool down, and go underneath to deal with the rust.

More Fun with surface rust!

I got as much of the under side of the Front and Core Support that I could get. Bought some Truck bed liner today and went to town on the front. Now for the hardest to reach area while the car is on the Ramps. The Floor pans, as you can see there is allot of surface rust underneath on both sides. I got to some of what I could on the driver side bit of Vinegar and Sanding but I am going to have to use the Vinegar Water mixture with some steel wool to help me with this area. It was way too hot today for me to get all of the driver side floor pan done. We still have time before it starts getting too cold.

Pulled the instrument cluster back out. Apparently the two bulbs not working were just a little bit loose in the socket. They are push in type, so I pulled them out and put them back, pressed down a little and they work fine. I checked every wire and connector for continuity, all checked good. While I had it out, I added two warning lights, one each for the water temp and the oil pressure, right beside their respective gauges. Started getting dark before I could get all of the connections wired up again. Should be rewired and an easy install later this week.

Ran out of cup wheels as the sun set, so alls i got done was stripping the two rear rails and unbolting the fuel, vapor and brake lines. I realize now i'm not going to be able to get every square inch of the frame or underbody as nice as i want, but it will be better than it was. But sh*t, for being a iowa car for 12,820 days, and 105k miles, it's fared very well.
i'd have to have the frame stripped bare and the body on a lift to fully do it my way. maybe i'll build a sexy new to me frame on the side...........

and no my car aint that droopy, or purple. my phone is an idiot. and the door gap is off at the top because the door is oil canned around the handle. it's been hip bumped into oblivion before i got it. and yes i still gotta drill the behind-the-wheel body mount hole.

Good progress. You don't need perfection. That car is a driver. It's a frame. Clean it up the best you can and give it a coat of paint. Same with the floor and trunk pans. Clean it up the best you can and give it a good coat of undercoating. The car will outlast you if you keep it out of the salt.

that is alot of work, I would clean it off to get rid of dirt and loose stuff and then cover it with something to protect the metal.

I got to air the Pig out with some triple digit tomfoolery on the highway. Took some kid in a lowered Challenger R/T to traffic school, and embarrassed another E350 Benz. To quote Ice Cube: "today was a good day"
