Spent a good amount of time “burping” the cooling system today. Got an air bubble in the upper hose and I don’t think coolant was getting to the thermostat as the engine got very hot very fast and didn’t cool. Let it cool down naturally and checked it out again. Kept squeezing the hose and bubbles kept coming. Finally got the right amount I guess because I watched the temp gauge go past midway then drop back down to normal running temp. I’ll double check tomorrow but I’m pretty sure I got it.

Tried to start it, would've lit off if the bowl was full. Took about 10 seconds too long. Used a spare battry to jump it.
Let it warm up. I unplugged the fan because at these temps its almost not needed.
That flowkooler pump is somethin else. Gets right to 180 give it a rev and drops to 160 for a few minutes. No fan.

Nice looking chairs. Looks like they have a good angle on them for comfort. They able to fully adjust/slide forward and back for leg room?

😢Today is a very sorrowful day, and I will get to that in a moment. 😢. First I called the Mechanic over the past couple of days. Since I was waiting for the last set of parts to arrive today, we agreed I will bring over to the shop all the parts I have obtained. Parts at least that I got via information from both this community as well as Facebook. All parts for the Mechanic to look at and we'll determine what is missing as well as the appointed date the car will go in for the Engine swap.

Right now it is a very cold day/night it is -15 degrees and we will be in the negatives for at least two more days.

Now for the sad news. My Stepfather died today, time of death 12:09 pm pretty much just as soon as I got home from work. He refused to allow the Hospital and Staff to help him in any way, it's almost like he wanted to die. We called the Ambulance on Sunday, Dementia seemed to be getting the better of him, my Mother even with her Disability tried hard to look after him, even had to clean up after him. Then he started loosing it mentally, almost like he was in a drunken stupor. Finally after I made a call to 911 the First Responders came in with two Sheriff's officers to escort him to the Ambulance. After that the Hospital has been keeping him sedated because of his aggression. After some days and refusing any help from the Hospital they put him in "Comfort Care" not too long after he died.

Much more to the story but I will not drag it on here. As it is I am dealing with a great sorrow today, But I am going to continue living life today. Life goes on, My emotional attachment to the man is about null and void, however it doesn't make his passing any easier on any of us. I wanted to take him out in the Malibu at least once when the Engine got swapped over. . . He did get a ride out of the Hospital awhile back when the V6 was still good.

I'll let you in the community know when the car goes in and it's progress.

"Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord, May he Rest in Peace." I am sorry for your loss.

It does sound like your Stepfather did his best to try to leave this world on his own terms. IN their own respective ways, My Mom and Aunt chose that way too.

Funny thing about projects, when a body is hurting in mind and soul, just the simple act of digging into a pile of rust and ruin can be a way to take your mind off your misery and divert it onto another path for a little while. That's sort of why I have a Monte Carlo sitting in my garage in a welter of pieces.

Just a personal thought here but for me the only things that helped in the end were time and family. You never forget and there will always be that ache in your soul but it will be time that will gift you with the ability to remember all the good things and happy times, and even the not-so-good times will come to be remembered in a kinder light as well.

Just as an unsolicited service to those who have chosen to periodically review my misadventures, I submit the two opening photos.

By way of identification, these are the pins that thread through the backing plate on a G-Body rear drum brake system, that then pick up a locating hole in the brake shoe, and then receive and support that nasty spring and cup assembly that has to be rotated 90 degrees to lock in position; all just to hang the shoes where they ought to be so that the rest of the story can be attached in turn.

The keen eyed, or magnifying glass equipped, will have immediately noticed that one is straight and could be re-used while the other is bent. The ruler has been placed between the two to emphasize the difference. I am honestly not sure why the bend is there but speculation has it that it is present to make braking while going around corners easier to accomplish?!?! (Insert sniggers here) It is possible that the pin got its bent on life during the removal of a brake drum sometime long ago in the distant past. Either that or it was an innocent bystander that got injured due to the e-brake cable deciding to semi-seize up. It was, as things fall out, the pin that did support the shoe that had the e-crake actuator lever attached to it. Whatever the reason it had to have happened in the distant past since the Monte hasn't seen the light of day except for when the main door is open since 2010. Right now, since it takes four (4) of these, 2 per side to hang shoes, and Napa sent only three, not three sets as I requested, (see diatribe above) I am waiting until some time next week for the remaining 9, the balance of what I asked for, to come in.

Right now I have two spare differentials sitting on the rack that I made for them, along with a 9" and an S-10 spare rear. They are all gimps; not a posi in the bunch but parts is parts and even 10 bolts are starting to get scarce around here. That said, the two 10 bolts are useable, whether as cores for a posi build, or as plug and play in the event of a failure. With that in mind, if I throw some pre-emptive mechanical love at them then they would be ready jic or worth more in the event someone comes calling.

As for the 9 inch, about all i know about it is that a friend and I scored it from a local vintage owner who was tearing down an old build to convert it into something more suitable to his tastes. Leaf spring perches and iron pumpkin. Thinking for that is an aluminum center chunk with the Daytona bearing support and a posi of some kind but keep the existing ring and pinion. I have no idea what the ratio is and it will take the cherry picker to pull that pumpkin; that sucker is just plain heavy. Again, it could be trading material if the necessity arose. Got rid of a bunch of 35 year old Dodge manual parts to an acquaintance who had just scored a 40 something Plymouth Coupe. Haven't seen him since so no joy on his progress (and that's a totally different website anyway). So I guess I am concentrating on Non-G projects this weekend.
