So today started out well, for about as long as it took to wake up and hit the head. After that, well let's see, a bank run to appease the credit devils, a side trip to the CAA to get a photo taken for an online application that was pending, back home to continue to deal with the garbage. Finally got to have breakfast, which I have taken to calling "first meal" around 11.30. Did get to watch the garbage snatchers grab my two bag quota so that got done.
All of this was the opening aria for my garage time.
Since the Monte's passenger door is still on the rack, I figured to spend some more time working on it. I did manage to finally strip off about 7-80 percent of the Ziebart rust coating that had been sprayed into the door spaces at some time in its past. Took the opportunity along the wya to address the wheel wrench for my Dewalt 4.5 and thinned the flats down a little on each side to get some clearance when acessing the nut on the wire wheel cups.
Changed over to a knotted wire cup and stripped off all the old paint on the side impact crash structure that GM embedded in the door skin from the factory.
Got it clean and reached for my MIG gun to start adding tacks to various places on the impact guard body only to discover that I had no feed on the wire; of course the culprit was an empty spool in the machine. End of day.
Tomorrow I have to pick up another bobbin of wire and reload the 215. In working with the driver's door I found that the impact barrier was only plug or rose welded together and then only plug welded into the inner door shell. They are large sized plug welds but I am adding short passes along the perimeter edges to create a stronger bond between the various layers of metal. That dumb *ss piece of architecture is the only thing between me and some idiot hell-bent on turning my door into a boomerang and I'll take all the protection that I can get.
