What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

something tells me that's commonplace around here..
I've got 3 currently active vehicle projects and my daily 01 2500 suburban with 472k on it added an engine rebuild this winter, basically the LQ4 will be turned into a 408 and the 4L85 needs basic build a or I strip the burb for parts🤷🏻‍♂️

So, O-kaaaay, maybe me out in the sun for a minute or two too long but thought you was who had the Buick and had to do some major body panel this-in and that-in due to age and rust and poor quality replacement parts. My bad here???

And it was a lovely day in the neighborhood, and a beautiful day for a total, thorough, abject, miserable failure to happen upon.

For those who have been following the radiator air duct saga, the last piece in that puzzle was the cover and I had been plugging away at it with the intent to shoot the final coat of Anti-Rust today and clear coat it tomorrow..............................

UH-UH. Was doing the color sanding today and went wet to make the life of the paper slightly longer and happier when I started to encounter micro-blisters; those pin head sized holes that pop up due to sub level contamination of one kind or another.

In my case, what I surmise may have happened was that the RustMort had not completely cured before I shot the Krylon. I was never really happen with that Krylon shot because it never seemed to harden completely. Even after a day or so it still clogged the sandpaper with paint balls. Then when I changed over to the Duplicolor, the two paints reacted against each other for some reason. This had not happened with previous shot sequences where one had been applied over the other but I also suspect that the ambient temperature plus the humidity and chill all conspired to bollux things up. The Krylon would not harden because it was too cold and damp. So it sat there and festered, for lack of a better term.

The final straw was today's short shot just to see if the Duplicolor could cover the issues cleanly. Nope. Nuh-uh. I had gone to the length of sanding out the micros as they appeared but for as many as I managed to identify and delete more came to replace them. I just could not get a cleanly feathered edge between layers of paint and even between paint and metal. The shots went clean but the damaged edges continued to show themselves, so.

Post supper, back to shop, boot up the compressor and back to bare metal the whole panel went. Took about an hour and a half and around a dozen 80 gr DA disks but it is back to au natural. After stripping it down, I applied a liberal dose of Lacquer Thinner to the metal to clean it off and then dried that off and re-applied a fresh new coat of the Rust Mort, which, as I am typing this, is in the process of curing/drying. Come tomorrow, it will get scuffed with a Red 3M pad and then back to the paint booth for a test shot to see what I have to work with.

One thing here, I was very glad to have the compressor and DA for this job, hand sanding would have just plain hurt. And although the weatherheads claimed the humidity was low, the water trap said otherwise. I finished the night by draining both the water trap and the main tank. My DV is quite capable of keeping up with my air tools but it is always polite to the compressor to give it chance to fill up and stop running before you go back to keeping the neighbour's kids up and screaming at their parents about the noise.

Getting her ready for the Classic, replaced that BIM module so now I have the bag pressures back in the Dakota. Moved on to removing the trim piece to re-wrap it tighter so that you can see the SS better in the fabric. Then hooked up the new radio without the screen, hoping that I am able to move it over so that it fits be we will see about that today. Then spent a stupid amount of time trying to minimize the amount drilled out of the cup holder to take the wire I had for the wireless charger and put the Ridetech controller there. Finally gave in and made a big *ss hole after I couldn't get the wire I chased down to pull it up through to work cause the head of the connector wouldn't come up through. Finished off after soaking through my second tee shirt with trying to get some stains out of the carpet. Will see what they look like today once they are dried up

And added mini flares to the fenders from the look of it as well. If you dig that down and nasty look, this works.

Made it into the shop just for long enough to take a piece of #M Scuff it fibre and make a run at smoothing down the post Rust Mort surface. Did that and then elected to hit it with a piece of 240 board paper on a hard foam backer just to make sure that it was all flat and smooth. Took the opportunity to chase a few more minor dips and dings and put them out of my misery. Pulled the trigger again and reshot the Duplicolor. The first passes went on okay so left it to do some grass cuttings bagging and then went back and shot round two. They now get to dry overnight so we'll se what's to be seen tomorrow after shift.

Yeah pretty much what I'm going after, though I think I can fit them in without finder flares.

275s just don't real fill up the opening, and stockish looking sleeper with a 575-600HP BBC under the stock hood
Though I'm not against 295s on 10" wide rims vs 315s on 11s. The rear is relatively easy. Front gets tricky

Let my mind run wild about putting 315 square or 315/335 staggered on 18" on my wagon, it currently has 275s squared, and 4k can be spent in much better areas .
Blame this guy, respectfully 😂
He's running 315s on 17s

That’s some good motivation to cut up some MC front fenders to stuff some 285s on all 4 corners….

How about this recipe... Should be able to find a few pictures of UMI green machine MC
I'd say a 10" with 5.5-6" of BS would fit very easy and easily run 285-295 tires

Some day…. But I’ve got my sights set on having inner fenders. Want to keep it street capable to beat up on daddy’s boys in their expensive wastes of pavement.
