Cop Vic Update:

It's kinda "done."

Over the last week, got it all back together, running, trans flushed out, fluids topped off, buffed out, waxed. I added a container of Prestone cooling system flush since I discovered a lot of oil in the coolant from the leaking oil cooler (which I've since eliminated) a while back.

Spent all day Saturday out with Jr. driving it for his first time. Afterall, it's his car anyway. He now has his Learner's Permit and can drive as long and me or the Mrs. are with him. We got it emissions tested where it passed with flying colors. Went to get the official license plates but I didn't have the title with me. I thought the registration for the temp. tag would suffice. No dice.... I'll deal with that this week.

We put about 70 miles on it. And it was running perfectly. Last night, took the Mrs. out for a spin because we needed to make a trip to Home Depot. Halfway there the check engine light came on. WTF?

I thought that maybe Jr. didn't get the gas cap back on right when we topped off the tank earlier in the day. Checked that and light was still on.

Drove it to my brother's today to borrow his scan tool. Plugged it in and wasn't getting any power to the plug port. WTF part 2?

Started checking all the fuses and found the one for the port, blown for whatever reason. Swapped that out and was able to read the code. It's the coolant temperature sensor. Go figure...

Maybe it's contaminated with the oil that is likely still in some of the coolant, or the coolant system flush is messing it up. We cleared out the code and I drove it home 25 miles and the light stayed out.

So what's left to do: I still need to get all the coolant out of it and put all fresh new stuff in. I'll probably do that one day this week. I'll likely replace the coolant sensor while I have the system drained. I'll be daily driving it while my wagon sits in the shop.

Also, I researched the rear doors which are still set up for cop duty and cannot be opened from the inside. In the "just my luck" department, instead of just pulling the pins that actuate the release rods from the rear interior handles, the conversion processor completely removed ALL of the rods instead. I found them on ebay and they're on the way. I'll get those installed at some point in the near future.

The plan is to drive this Heap three hours one-way to Detroit and back this coming weekend to be a spectator at the Detroit Auto-Rama.

I didn't think you guys across the state line needed emission testing.

Cars and trucks under a certain age still get tested. Odd yeared vehicles get tested in odd calendar years. Evens get tested in even years. It's been so long since I've had to get a personal vehicle tested that I honestly don't know the year cut-off. I think it's 20 years. I DO know it's 25 years to be eligible for Historical license plates.

The Cop Vic is a 2010 and even though this is 2019, I had to get it tested because it's "new" to me.

At least they don't charge for the testing anymore.

I built a side table. The top still needs a coat of polyurethane.
