What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2020]

Since there was threat of rain didn't want to take the Monte, so took the GTO to my favorite event of the year. The pizza power tour, sorry only took pics of some of the trucks to rub it in a buddies face who was supposed to come but forgot and had agreed to work

Trying to find a chassis for my future Turbo DX Olds dragweek style 8.50 legal build. I want a solid roller that doesn't need insane levels of body work with a decent sized engine bay but not something I feel bad about hacking apart to install a cage. It's not going to be a full interior stock appearing car like my Cutlass or 2+2 so I don't need to start with a mint car.

I love my G body stuff but want to build something different. I've owned 5 G bodies and just looking to learn about some different chassis.

I'd enjoy a 69-70 A body cutlass but they are desirable ($$$), and kinda heavy
52-56 olds 88 look awesome but again, they are heavy B body stuff, finding one is proving to be tough
A 1st gen or 2nd gen firebird would be sweet but I'm not sure I can put myself to putting an Olds in a Pontiac (even though a late auto TA had a 403) and 2nd gen F chassis are rapidly going up in price, and since I really only want a 70-74 small window car, I really limited my search scope.

Was scrolling through the FB and forgot about the Oldsnova X chassis cars! The Omega. I can do the olds in an olds and the chassis aren't overpriced.

It seems X body chassis cars make great drag cars and they are decently light. I have seen about a dozen different 1st gen F body and X body builds that have done the Drag Weekend event I go to and it's really cemented my opinion that they just work for this type of build. The aftermarket support is great and they seem to hold up well. They look awesome minitubbed and have very spacious under hoods.

The only problem is convincing my Dad that I might own a nova derivative (haha). He mentions that he grew up when they were new or recently used cars and in rural MN farm country they just fell apart and were total trash. He is biased against X bodies haha.

So, this Omega isn't the one for me since it's a bit of a rusty start, and looks to be a factory vinyl top roof rotter car and is a bit more into the abandoned project phase than I want, but it makes me think it might be the best chassis. Plus, If I find an Omega hatchback I can be really goofy.

Seeing all these 7 to 9 second capable X body & 1st gen F builds over the past few years has ruined me 🙂

Gold 73-74 Omega might be the ticket!

Washed and resealed both. Four hours later. I am thankful that is over.

Cleaned up leaves. Still a lot more to fall.

Backpack blower felt really down on power and it doesn't have a lot of hours on it.

Took a look at it and found the problem. Spark screen entirely gummed up. I usually throw these away but it's probably a good idea on a leaf blower.

Cleaned it out with a torch and put it back together. Running much, much better.

Whats that

Tonight's Girlfriend:

Well this was a treat of a job. Needed to fix the condensation drain for the water heater in the garage. I didn't know brass could just rott away like that. Go figure.

Those stupid PEX copper collars were the worst to get off. Mr. DREMEL fixed their little red wagon.

Bought the correct crimping tool for those clamps and gave it hell. The black goop is Form-A-Gasket 2 to fill in where I sliced through the pipe. I reoriented the slices up and clamped it before the gash to help prevent any more leakage. It's a gravity drain system so it should be good for another decade.
