You read books?

We have read a few (more boxed up downstairs, lots donated or tossed in the last year):

Our 7 year old is reading at around a grade 5 level. Hell, I pounded through about 20,000 words between books, papers, and pubs for my course this week.

And whenever I am asked:

I friggin' love readin', Sir!

Did more arts and crafts this week. My Pastor has a diecast car collection in his office, so I decided to add to it for a Christmas gift. I decided on American Graffiti, specifically the drag race between the 55 Chevy and the 32 Ford. I couldn't find a pre-made kit that I liked, so I Frankensteined one together from 2 different kits (specifically the Hotwheels and Johnny Lightning mini dioramas)

Here's the two separate kits "stock"

The one kit had the correct Toad figure that started the race, but the cars aren't that well done. The Hotwheels kit has the collector clear case and very accurate looking cars.

I used some stock movie stills to get the road markings and positions right. and then used thin cork gasket material painted flat black to simulate the blacktop.

Still have an original Optimus Prime, I'm jealous.
It is actually a really old Gen I repro (even has the mood changing icon thingy).

The Dinobots say hi:

I got to work on my Goldwing this weekend, and figured out most of what it needs to be road ready and safe.

On my first outing in it, the rear brake locked up and smoked the hell out of the brakes. Luckily it managed to melt the brake line which released the brakes and allowed us to get home.

So far, I got a brake light switch, brake line, and a rebuild kit ordered for the rear wheel. I replaced the broken bottom half of the trunk, and will attend to a couple cracks in the side boxes while they are off. I also added a volt gauge that was included by the seller, as these bikes were known for stator problems.

It should be a fun winter project, and will be a fun runner when spring comes around. As is, it is a 37 year old bike that starts on the first crank at 30 degrees, so I can't complain.

Rented a trencher to lay some pipe down to the road for some unlimited internet service. Out here, there's no DSL, fiber- what fiber?, and CATV stops at either end of my road, 3/4 mile away. This guy down the street is peddling some wireless internet for $90/month with no data caps like the cell hotspots we have currently. It's 30Mb down and 5 up, so it's about 15x faster, too.
There are several reasons why I don't do this for a living! The crooked trench is from the tracks spinning in the mud and wet leaves. 20201214_154039.jpg20201214_154014.jpg20201214_154008.jpg20201214_153956.jpg

That's a good bit of pipe you've got there. . . have you thought about future-proofing yourself in case they decide to run cable and whatnot down your road?
It's 2", and as far as I know, it only needs a CATx for power and a fiber for signal. I'll put another pull string in when I pull those.
