My y pipe had been banging into the k member and ripped off the wrap.

So today I trimmed the member back some. I trimmed far enough for it to not stick together anymore.

When I went to lay a bead on it, I was rewarded with a shower of slag that burned right through my shirt. I grabbed a welding jacket and will get after this again tomorrow. In the meantime, I rewrapped the y pipe.

Next I went for the pinion seal. This was my first time doing one. I'd been avoiding it for a while, but found a YouTube video that convinced me it wasn't that hard. My concern was getting it right back the way it was, I think I managed that.

Line all the dots back up on reassembly and you're good to go. In other news, I seem to have found why the car stinks like raw gas.

Debating on ignoring it vs a plastic tank swap.

Found the problem in the Muncie, and I don't think it's the blocking rings. The 1st gear sleeve wasn't pressed on enough. Stacked clearance pushed the main shaft too far into the input shaft. I heard that this can weld itself together; so glad THAT didn't happen!!!
