What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

Seriously. The Camaro looks like it could fit between the wheels on the Kitty. Cannot wait until it's got 400+ ponies (the Camaro) it'll be a treat.
The picture doesn't even do all of it justice either.

Our 85 Bird is on jack stands with a good 16" of air clearance to the floors right now...

It's roofline is STILL lower than any of the s197 or s550 mustangs next to it. Think about that. Raise the car a foot+ in the air and it's roof is lower than the new pony cars.

3rd gens are seriously low profile for having so much room inside when you drive them.

STILL plugging away at the renovations to the front of the house, but the recent heat wave has all but ground progress to a halt. Is been over 100 degrees here the last couple days without even so much as a breeze which is extremely uncharacteristic for us.
I gotta say, I love the warm weather as much as the next guy, but there comes a time when hot is just too hot. Especially to work in.

But that aside, I’ve tried to continue making headway and accomplish at least something every day. Together with the better half, we’ve managed to repaint all the railings, around the windows, the underside of the overhang framework, and the fascia board underneath the gutter along the full length of the house.

I’ve also got one set of the 3 pillars fully redone, I’m very proud and pleased with how it turned out.

Started demolition and restoration on the second set…

…all too happy to get rid of all this old cheap garbage finger-jointed pine bullshit:

I’ve replaced all that old crap with white PVC corner and base mouldings, it’ll stand up to the weather much better and not need painting every few years. No paint also means there’ll be none to start to peel and look like *ss.

Because I’m starting on the second set of pillars, it was time for the old cheap plastic number set that used to be mounted there to hit the circular file, and install something a little more modern and interesting in a different location. I chose to put them on the aforementioned fascia board under the gutter.

We found a cool set of bold black stand-off, LED backlit numbers at Home Despot that we both really liked.

I even splurged for the optional photocell that turns them on at dusk and off at dawn. Unfortunately the picture from a distance doesn’t do it justice, it looks yellow and washed out, but in person it’s bright, clear and gives a cool effect.

Up closer so the camera would take a more accurate picture, this is more how it looks in person:

The amount of work it took to do this simple little upgrade would boggle your mind, it entailed removing a section of the soffit above the veranda, drilling holes and fishing wires, and cursing the whole time because access in behind isn’t anywhere what you’d think. It literally took me the entire day Saturday to get it done, so you can imagine my delight in finding only the “8” would light up at first.
😩

Thankfully it was just a matter of switching a couple of the connections around, and it’s been right as rain ever since.

Gotta get through 2 more weeks of work, then the missus and I have a full week off together. She wants us to take Olds Cool on several day trips in and around Alberta here, so I’m really looking forward to that. Should be a couple of good photo ops there too.

That’s it for now guys, hope everyone is staying safe and cool and enjoying summer.

Here's how far a 3rd gen can sit in the air...

And yet have a roofline lower an a s197 mustang... not lower by much, maybe 1", but still somewhat ridiculous.

Now imaging putting a drop kit into the 3rd gen....

With both cars around 270whp, the big old S197 Mustang beats the crap out of the 3rd gen. They were in our class for a couple years and dominated. When they told them the following year they'd be required to run on 225mm tires vs 275 for everyone else they all bailed.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 197s... probably even more than the 550s because you could get the panoramic roof option which 1) only added 28lbs but 2) made the entire structure much stronger and more rigid.

I'm thinking of keeping the v6 premium, selling the GT, buying another GT premium that has the glass roof instead, and then getting a soft top of unknown configuration. Have a set of all 3 types in the end. I'd need to clean at least one garage more first though to find a spot for a soft top. Maybe kick the green 78 c10 outside.

Really? Might make a decent autocross platform.
