What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2021]

Not so much a project, but I finally found something useful from Canada. Hopefully see some use at Independence Day party.

Really? Might make a decent autocross platform.

They may have been forced to run heavier before the tire thing. I have the old rules, I just know it was hard to slow them down, the 3V cars. This was, of course, within the constraints of our rules which don't allow any roll center correction, geometry alterations, or the like. I'm told it was the rear suspension, but I'm sure there was more to it than that.

The headliner I pulled from the work truck in Feb or March 2020 got recovered in May 2021 and installed yesterday. I feel like a boss ! LOL

I used 3m spray adhesive and put 2 layers of foam backed bubble ( hot water heater wrap ) on the roof before putting the headliner back in. I actually was now able to hold a conversation on my phone in the truck during a rain storm driving home last night instead of it sounding like I was in a drum during a concert.

The attempted repair on that TVS cable on the 700R4 did not take; failed miserably in fact, so had to pull the A-T all the way out from under the G-10 and get it up and re-installed on the engine stand. Had pre-ordered another cable jic but discovered that it was wrong-wrong-wrong so had to call and order another. Supposed to appear today? 700R4 is still hanging off the engine stand; waiting.

Did get some more work done on that nasty looking 47 Indian wheel that came into my possession. Brake side is looking almost acceptable although it will never be chrome glitter pretty again. Thing here is that this wheel may never have been chromed in the first place. The plating may have been only nickel that then had been polished or buffed out. That was quite common at one point, particularly with bumpers. I have buffing wheels and polish so may try to raise a shine by going that route. Might have to rig up some kind of arbor flex drive rube goldberg device so just hang the buff on a mandrel and use the air drill for a motivator. Something to give some thought to. Pictures?? Possibly a before and after going from side to side. Have to put some more effort in on the cleaner side before that happens.

They are/were rocking a three link so that's not exactly Earth shattering. Pecking order kinda goes leafs, 4 link, 3 link, Watts, IRS in my experience.

Both pictures are of a1947-48 or so Indian Chief wheel. The first pic is more or less as it showed up, fresh from the carton. Some of the major crud has been removed using EvapoRust (Not a plug here) and there has been some gentle work done to lift the oxidation.

The second pic is the brake side of the wheel and has a lot more work done by way to digging down to the original finish. This was accomplished using a combination of brass bristle hand brushes, brass bristle rotary brushes, Solval Chrome Polish and Pig Snot chrome polish, and a lot of hard rubbing and scrubbing. The final verdict on this wheel has not been determined as the spokes show major acne and rust scars. It may still end up getting torn down and a new rim and spokes installed.

And finally, a bonus shot of my 700R4 hanging from my engine stand and waiting on its correct TVS cable assembly which, actually did show up today and was right! So tomorrow is Canada Day locally and therefore a garage day all day with the t-mission being the star of the show.

Oh yeah, have been in contact with ARP and the torque values they suggest for their fasteners are substantially lighter than what the factory seems to want. Going to go with the ARP's They are a known commodity with a good reputation.

Replaced the battery cables in the Farmall tractor, the old ones were pretty ratty.

The water temp in my pool got up to 96 degrees today from solar heating.

No pics for this but the new TVS cable got installed after supper; had to dig the old grommet out of the hole and then persuade the new grommet that this would be its new home for ever and ever. Also had to take the retaining bolt for the cable flange and ever so gently face its sides down to return them to a hex. Ended up as 11/32 and a good fit, flat on bolt to flat in socket so slathered it with some never-seize and screwed it home. No torque, just one grunt beyond finger tight. Flipped the whole business belly side up and proceeded to re-install the pan gasket and pan. Those bolts got 10 ft/lbs of torque, no more. Did them and then revisited them for the double-click and stopped right there. Those pan bolts are 10.9's metric grade which is supposed to be around a grade 8 but my recent experience with grade 8s has me looking to go gentle on the amount of grunt and groan I apply to a bolt or capscrew. My 1/2 drive torque wrench may need to go out for recalibration some time this year; it will cost but peace of mind as to accuracy is worth it.

Right now the transmission is off the engine stand and back on the transmission lift. The plan for tomorrow is first to chase the block threads using a special tap designed for that purpose, just to make sure the threads are clean and burr free, and then to weasel the t-mission back under the van and lift it up into position on the dowels. I can use 1-1/4 grade 8's as place markers until the ARP's come in. Typical project, budget a week and use a month.

96 degrees would be just about right for some serious beer and floaty time. Maybe a hair too hot for the young'uns but I like the heat cause it soaks into my bones and muscles and makes them happy; until I start wrestling transmissions again. Bother.

Took the Lady Mullet out for a test drive and couldn't detect a whiff of gas underhood. Filled it up and put it back where I found it. I believe that is the first time I'd driven it in a year. Needs more faster.
