Well I spent some money on the daily driver the other day.

As if I hadn't spent enough already. So I'm trying to tie up the last of the barter jobs before the parts all come in because I got news for anyone that wants me to do something else. I'll be working on the daily until it's done and will do nothing else before. I even got my boss on board we've been using the mechanical Bay at work for basically storage and he's having it emptied Monday while the shop is closed to be put back in service. Well I'm doing my truck before anything else goes in there. My plan is to back it in the 2 post lift and take the cab up high enough to roll the frame forward so the engine is out from under the truck. I scanned the truck into the shop CCC so I can take lots of pictures and get it back together correctly. I spoke with the Machinist already about checking and resurfacing the heads. My buddy EJ is a hard core Ford diesel guy and he offered his assistance. I'm not counting on it but it's nice to think someone might help. I also diagnosed what I thought was an intake leak. Turns out it's an up pipe so good thing I ordered a new stainless steel set. Hopefully while the heads are out I'll have some time and I'll clean up and paint the frame from the bed forward. Try and make it nice maybe do the back half when I do the rear bags I may remove the gooseneck hitch at that time. It's not like I use it although my wife wants a camper. Like I said that's a different project.

If you know a injector rebuilder, is it worth having them checked out while the rig is apart? Buddy told me it was $60 each to have them done, but saved grief down the road.

Compromise. Tell the wife that if you sell the house in jersey, buy a big piece of land in a more sensible/affordable state, she can have an RV

Did I miss something? I thought this thing was in another shop being fixed for the last 3 months?

It is, I discussed it with the Machinist and he knows a guy so yeah it's getting done

Upgraded the 2 ‘10 mismatched subs I had in the Caprice here for 2 ‘12 CV ones.

While building the raised floor subframes for my '64, it became painfully obvious the 16x10" deep back spaced wheels were not going to be user friendly. I couldn't get the front sub-frame out because the tire height interfered & I needed to remove it for finish welding. This is where adapting can be an issue & it was in my head all along. The original 12bolt truck housing was the correct length for the steel wheels & back spacing before the major frame mods. But I knew there would be an issue trying to get them on/off as low as the truck would be after modding. So a narrower Ford 9" was swapped in place & I used adapters to allow mock-ups to move forward w/those wheels/tires.

Fast forward to removing the sub-frames last week & what a PITA. Removal required jacking the bed structure up & putting front/rear ends of the bed on stands; jacking the frame up high enough & putting a stand under the rail, pulling the wheel & tire while trying to squeeze it between the hub flange/studs & the outer bed skin/wheel opening. It required force to squeeze it out.

So I did a thing I wasn't going to do but I'm tired of delaying the inevitable (spending $$ to get it done). Got some 20x10's w/4"BS & pulled the adapters off. This allows ~2" more wiggle room to help get the hunk 'o rubber out. The 'flow-formed' aluminum wheel is lighter than cast (waaay lighter than the steel wheels that were on it) so that will help as well.

The first few images give you some idea as the the 'new' floor height vs where it was originally. Then a couple of shots of the sub frames during construction & after picking them up from powder-coating. Then the new rear shoes....

I'll get fronts on the way next week. They'll really set my wallet on fire.....
