What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

In addition to getting the exhaust brake hooked up on my Dodge, I got my Dad's Mazda ready for inspection. It got new four new tires, two new front wheel bearings, new front brake pads, and I replaced a blown exhaust gasket. I wanted to put new front rotors on it as well but my Dad is notoriously cheap when it comes to cars and the current ones will still pass so they are staying for now. I used Timken for the wheel bearings, they seemed like the best choice between price and quality. Tires are a set of blemish General Altimax RT43s. New pads are Wagner Thermoquiets. I wanted him to get Akebonos, but these were cheaper and I've never had issues with Thermoquiets in the past. It needs a new rear coil spring; a 3 inch piece broke off the bottom of the right side a few months ago. I've tried ordering it online and from several Mazda dealers and apparently they have been on backorder for months so who knows when it might come in.

Check with Eaton Detroit Spring. They manufacture here. I've had good experiences with them several times...

There was one other option that commended itself to my attention in the stripping category and that was Soda Blast. Thing with that around here is that it is totally industrial and the companies do big ticket items like buildings and bridges. They won't even answer the phone for a small beer item like an antique rim. Sand is too aggressive and walnut shells and plastic shot wouldn't even make a ding in the debris.

What da ****?? The accent says they're Aussies and that about explains it all. Only thing baffling me at this point is how are they lubing the bearing that sits in between the two halves of the turbo?? Ah, running explanation, the second try showed they fitted an external oil ilne to the turbo. Mad, the lot of em.

The sound that the thing is making reminds me of an aircraft engine spooling up during initial start.


This would be the sort of extreme destruction that you'd find at an extreme auto event, kind of like when they take a POS offshore clunker, punch a hole in the oil pan, start it, and take bets on how long it will live.

Last few seconds there is a brief conversation about letting the thing run amok until the turbo explodes. I've seen them go in a controlled setting like a dyno room; lots of videos of that occurring but at least there are concrete walls to act as a barrier. Out n the open with no where to run and no where to hide......................................

About all that's missing here is a couple of pints of Fosters.

I picked up Lexi's Camaro last night after work. The ses light was off and it ran perfect! About half way home it lost oil pressure and started knocking. I got a ride to the store and bought 20/50 and a filter. To late the oil looks bronze metallic and there were a few pieces of metal in the brand new pan. I tried changing the oil and filter anyway and started it up. Good oil pressure but still a knock. If it was for me I'd run it until it lets go but it's for Lexi and I don't want it to leave her on the side of the road. Money is really tight so I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm probably going to price out used motors today.


I've been told bad things come in 3s so between the truck the 78 cutlass and the Camaro am I done yet?
