What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

even though I'm now a Ford guy, I always had to laugh at the commercials for those... "Military grade aluminum" ? military uses the cheapest minimum parts to get the job done and below budget...

lots of stuff nowadays is rivet and glue... look at alot of tractor trailer rigs and medium duty cargo trucks... if it says "Duraplate" it's basically glued or in some cases taped together... look at a PENSKE 26' moving truck next time you see one, and notice the lack of hardware between the panels.... and people wonder why I like my older vehicles.....
Don't know why the even tried to claim military grade as for anyone who has been around military Hummers knows those body panels are way thicker that what Ford stamps.

Well yea that steel door hummer is a tad more than the aluminum ferd...

Looks like I may have the '14's younger sibling to replace it, a near carbon copy '15 Z71 with the same options but in silver with running boards & a tonneau cover.

I'll still give a good looke over checking the doors to make sure I'm not going to find the same hidden rust damage that was able to make an aperance on the '14. I has over 66K on it. The only bad right now is I won't be able to bring it home until next week as I got my credit union to OK the loan too late this afternoon & won't put the check in the mail until Monday with a two day wait for the USPS to get it to me. Give them the insurance payoff & it'll basicly be mine as long as it checks out.

Looks pretty clean. Be sure to bring some along Vaseline to the finance manager's office though. Advertising recovering fees, prep charges, vehicle reconditioning, paperwork charges... it's coming

The aluminum body is still a selling point for me. True, it doesn't take a hit like steel will. The F150 still gets good results in crash tests so the aluminum doesn't affect safety. It just affects collision repairability. The easy answer to that is don't wreck it. Salty winter roads are guaranteed living in the northeast. Collisions aren't. Even still, choice of material doesn't seem to matter much as pagrunt has recently proven to us with his steel GM truck being totalled after a collision with a deer. What difference would it have made it the truck was aluminum?

"Military grade" was a marketing gimmick and we all know it but thanks to Built6spdMCSS for breaking out the crayons to explain it more clearly to us lowly civilians...

Corrosion is the main thing that sold it to me. Those little Grumman mailtrucks are aluminum and they are 30-40 years old and still holding up fine. Anyone who knows big trucks knows that flatbed trailers are almost always aluminum. Why? Weight is one reason, but also they don't rust out like steel trailers do. They last much longer than steel trailers because of that.

I know, had to make sure the loan covers all those extra "fees" (profit makers) that'll be tacked on. Their finance manager was trying to get me to let them get me the loan (at a higher rate than the CU) & offer me a 3/36K bumper to bumper for only $4K. I will try to use my vet status to see if I can squeeze something out of them. Nothing like paying $30K for a $22K truck, thanks market/inflation/supply chain/etc, etc, etc,... But it did net me $22K for a $14K truck.

Well, it was more supply chain actually that caused it. But still most of the front sheet metal will need to be replaced replaced if someone picks it up as a rebuild (which I do hope so.)

You're only one year off from being able to try and strong arm them into certifying it CPO for you and getting thr manufacturer warranty. Had to be within the last 6 model years 😕

If the paid version of the extended warranties interest you, dealers other than the selling dealer can issue one, and every manufacturer has a couple dealers that slash their profit on the factory backed warranties to drive volume. Even just a quote from the other dealer may get these guys to cut their rate since it's better to make a little than nothing...

I really wanted something that was CPO but nothing in my range of wants has stayed on the lots long enough. Missed out on two '18's that were CPO, low miles & priced right. I'm still looking cause until my plate is mounted on that bumper I still have options as I'm still looking to be safe. But I do want to get this hunt over with.

Crayons are reserved for the hungry USMC grunts. They will fight you for them, be warned. 🙂
