What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Drove one.

45 years and it's more pleasurable to drive than anything they make today.

Unfortunately, it's going to need to sit outside for a bit on the side driveway of the new place.

Any bets on if 2 tiny resonators quiet up a cammed blown 3800 in a fiero?

My buddies 88 GT l67 swap has a decent cam, long tubes, balance shaft delete, poly mounts and if there was a picture of NVH in the dictionary this car would be it. It vibrates like a SOB and this boat muffler is loud. Literally this is all the exhaust the car has, biggest single 3" in dual 2.5 out he could find and 2 90's to the tips.

Welded in a pair of resonators and hes swapping the poly mounts for rubber. Hopefully it will take it down 3-4 dB haha

Oh and put a wideband o2 bung in.

Speaking of fangs, I don't see any of those on the bottom of the housing. All this time I thought Bonnewagon was changing the side gears on the wagon....

My guess is you hear a slight change in sound, but lay into it and no change.

I buttoned up my plenum duct dealies tonight. Cut out the material from the main pieces and the gaps are all JB Welded up now.

I'll get these bolted back in the car with hubs and all tomorrow and get my NACA ducts zapped back in as well with the new brake ducting hose. Also got my new fire bottle in the mail yesterday, hoping to have the car off the stands this weekend and all loaded up for next weekend so I don't have to do crap next week.

I mean, that's about all a stock system would've had, and, being a 3800 swap I presume the previous trunk floor was cut out and removed, with a plate welded in to replace the old storage compartment?

Especially if that's the case, if think the exhaust tips have room for something like this, just modify one turn on it:

Yeah the trunk floor is cut out. Come to think about it I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the new floor welded in (it might have a few self tappers?), i've been trying to convince him that's part of the problem. I think he needs some significant sound deadening/heat shields down there and that would help a lot.

The car was pretty quiet when it had manifolds and a slightly longer exhaust system but the long tubes made it like twice as loud.

If you think about it he created a poorly insulated echo chamber much like a subwoofer enclosure. I agree that the fact the floor isn't welded in likely adds to the issues.

With the edges not welded that increases the ability for the sheet to vibrate. And what's on the other side of the sheet? A big empty square to echo the sound. The factory trunk seal works really good on the top side of making a sealed surface.

Will it make it quiet as a stock one would be tonweld it and cut back then reinstall the carpet and jute? No, probably not. But it'd help a bunch.

Another thing that may help.... exhaust valve in the tailpipes? May have a slight impact on performance depending on what he did, but, they're pretty cheap and fairly common if the goal is to reduce noise while cruising

Except that this is the "NON-G-body" project section. It doesn't matter. All these rears work the same way. When we drove way up into Pennsylvania to buy a 1977 Trans Am rear my buddy dragged me along to make sure it was worth $475. I grabbed the companion flange and tested the total free play and was pleasantly surprised to feel almost no play at all. It was sitting in a TA with a blown engine that was "going to be fixed" for 40 years and only had 50k on it. It still had the OEM GM brake shoes! It is now in a 1980 TA and runs fine. But thanks for reminding me the pinion seal on the Bonnewagon is leaking and needs changing. I have been ignoring that job for two years now.
