Work on the turbo 4.1? Put A/C in the garage? Keep cool and build models to fortify the car fund?
Turbo 4.1 sounds like a fantastic idea but that lends to getting the garage cool since it's 95 in there (ish).
Garage does need AC and I'd love to put a window unit in, but the previous owner (for some inconceivable reason) nailed janky storm windows onto the existing windows so it's 4 panes of glass and they can't be opened. BAH! They spent the money to sheetrock the garage but not insulate it so I'm not sure why they decided add on storm windows was going keep the garage a more comfortable temp when everything just radiates out the ceiling and walls. I need to replace the windows.
You struck a sour topic for me on the AC suggestion lol....
Models is the coolest option for sure!
Brainerd has a road course too ya know. . .
Funny you mention that,
The Aussies host the US version of PowerCruise there next weekend actually. Everyone with a 1200hp car with no safety equipment goes there and they roll race around the track. The amount of people on FB thrashing to get their stuff zip tied together enough to make it in the last few weeks has been impressive.
I have heard it is a RIOT but I know a ton of people that roast engines and transmissions there. My car is nowhere near the point where I feel comfortable to blast it down the back straight at 160mph alongside a 1200hp foxbody lol.
Some day.
Dr. Pepper is the poor man’s track compound. Find a local road and turn it into a black lines matter road - then take your time dial inyour launch to not be at 5 degrees when you dump the clutch.
But be safe and lift before you hit 60mph.
FYI - I’ve never done any type of red neck testing and tuning like that before, but you folks from the Midwest have a lot less population density than us NYer’s. 🤪😉😑😉
125 miles to a track - Geesh that’s a pita. I wish I didn’t know the feeling.
I do have a 'test' spot not TOO far away that I do have some tune things to work through on. That is part of the plan in the coming days/weeks to do some 4th gear timing pulls. I need to verify my clutch delay and 2 step turns off when I want.
Dad and I actually painted out 60ft, 660 and 1320 ft markers on the road out by the farm in HS to do some testing, but I live annoyingly far away now to use that.
I am currently in the worst track access condition I have ever been (I have been really spoiled). In HS and College I was between 10 and 40 miles from the 1/4 mile track (actually the track I ran at 3 weeks ago) and was 5 miles away from the track after college for the past 4 years until last year when I moved.
I moved to the MSP metro area for my Master's schooling 2 years ago which is full of NIMBY Karens (who shut the local track down in the late 80's). There are arguably significant street racing problems here and the local PD puts out regular "we shut down this street race, keep it safe, go to the track" PSA's multiple times over the summer and the response from everyone is "What track!?!?"
There's a track over in WI 100 miles east, Brainerd is 125 miles North, 1/8 mile track is 75 miles west, the track I grew up with is 200 miles away, and the track I went to after college is 180 miles south. There are efforts to put a 1/4 mile track and road course in about 70 miles south west, but the local Karens are doing their best to keep it out and I honestly think its dead now.
