See that little light on the dash? "Service engine soon"??? The car is asking to have that 305 lump removed and replaced with something better.

It's begging.
The Service Engine Soon light is on because he turned the key to ON without starting it so he could show off the new voltmeter. If the car was running, the tach would read at idle, the oil pressure would be like 40psi and the voltmeter would read like 13.9V or so...

But yes, it is asking for a better heart transplant!

One more shameless Simpsons plug.

Cuz I totally missed that it wasn't running.

So a few days ago the car started making a god awful rattling noise (Natasha was annoyed). It was not load dependant, it didn't act consistent with RPM, and it would periodically disappear. So today I put it up on ramps, gave it a listen, popped the belt off and ran the car again - no noise. Then handrualically tested all of accessory pullies and found the culprit: smog pump.

Long story short - after exploring my options: rebuild, replace with a discontinued delete pulley, bypass with a longer rerouted belt, or smashing the guts out of it - I made my choice.

Thing works on an eccentric shaft like a Wankel. Flushed it all out and repacked the rear bearing. This is some of what came out:

If it dies again we'll just get a replacement belt. As Natasha put it: It isn't worth the effort or investment for what is coming next.
