Steve, that is a stock A/G body 3 speed shifter stick in the picture. It's just installed backwards!

my father did however have it installed in his 87 c10 behind a 4.3 at one point. you can see where he heated the handle and tweaked it. (truck originally a 3 on the tree)

ok so the one im looking at is a 74 super t10 with the 26 spline input and the th400 output. so i can put that new driveshaft for the 8.5 and th400 to use.

this is main # on case

Just so you know, the forward mounted shifter is because on the base models, it must clear the bench seat. If you put in a trans with the shifter mounted at the rear of the tail housing, the shifter will be about 6" farther to the rear. This is fine with buckets, and since you need to make a hole anyway, not a huge problem. Finding a custom console to fit is probably easier with the rear mounted shifter, but an A/G body console needs the shifter forward.

Pontiac had a the 455 SD in 73 and 74..

SD-455 consisted of a strengthened cylinder block that included 4-bolt main bearings and added material in various locations for improved strength. Original plans called for a forged crankshaft, although actual production SD455s received nodular iron crankshafts with minor enhancements. Forged rods and forged aluminum pistons were specified, as were unique high flow cylinder heads.

GM rated them at 290 hp but they were dynoed and they got over 370 hp out of them...
