Re: 87 SS

Mayne, I gotta give it to you. With all the bs you go through, you still keep pushin and dont give up on your ride. Your thread is inspiration as well as motivation for a beginer like me. Im not a master mechanic, but I am trying to learn as much as I can about gbody's. It will probably take me years to get where you and a lot of others on here are. Cant wait to see the finished product. Keep us posted. Hopefully my engine install thread will be up in a few days. Lookout for me :!:

Thanks for that bruh!! Preciate all the comments from everyone. Keeps me in the game. This lil car has been a nightmare. This latest thing is ALL my fault tho. I should have dropped the rear pan and put in a new gasket and oil before the trip. I was a lil too excited to get on the road and break the motor in. All the caution was put towards the motor and transmission. Lesson learned. Taking my G National rear to my boy's crib today. I have my kids this weekend so I cant work on it. We will have the new rear done on Weds. Here's the carnage.

Re: 87 SS

Just a word of caution in case you didn't already know. I hope you aren't trying to drive it or flat tow it anywhere like that. If any shrapnel causes your spider gears to break there will no longer be anything to hold your axles in and out they will come along with the tires and drums. After having this happen four times now it gets expensive real quick.

Re: 87 SS

Thanks for that warning bruh. That rear is toast. Only thing keeping it in place now is the emergency brake. Its parked with the brake on and wheels blocked. I half assed it. Should have dropped my G National rear in, or at least chainged the rear gasket and fresh oil. That's the o.g. rear and has not been ran since 2005. Car has been sitting. Probably was low on oil and had been howlin ever since I fired the new 350 up. I had the Thrush welded mufflers mounter right after the headers at first. It was a temp thing cuz I was tired of the car being at the shop. Just wanted the car back ya know. I drove it for a lil bit but nothing major. After I added my X pipe and moved the muffs back, I could finally hear the rear pinion howling. I should have did the oil change then. Oh well. Lesson learned. Dropping the rebuilt G National rear in next week. Im taking the my aluminum driveshaft in to be checked as well as draining the trans fluid and checking for any metal. Just to be safe. Thanks for the word of caution bruh. I found that out when I was sittin thre on the shoulder. Had my eyes shut thinking how lucky I was to not get killed. Traffic was heavy and there were big rigs everywhere. I opened my eyes and I was rollin down the 10 fwy while in park. LOL! Hit the brakes and threw on the emergency break. Another reason why i have to keep my e-brake. My bro's that do the G-nat swap or rear disc setup do away with the brake. Nope!

Re: 87 SS

Finally got off my lazy butt and wrenched a lil bit. Got the old rear out, and decided to take the drums apart and snatch the e-brake off. I'll use the ebrake cables already on the car instead of fiddlin around. Took the stock bearing cap bolts out and used some ARP studs with locking nut. Added the TA rear girdle and some 75w-90 gear oil and posi additive. I'll drain that fluid after my next AZ trip and go with some Amsoil 75-90 synthetic and "Slip loc" chatter additive. Did the after break-in motor oil change. Oil was clean and no metal shavings. Will drain it after my next Az trip and go with some Mobil 1...Since everything is out, Im gonna drop in my OPG 2" drop springs, Belltech Nitro drop shocks and Hotchkis rear swaybar. This is my first time doin all this kind of work. I used to have shops do it for me as I work nights and have no place to do the job. Well I now have a spot I can work on things for a couple hours a day. The rear will be in today and Im gonna drop my MSD wire set in as well. This is fun work!!! I Love it. Busted knuckles and all

Old rear is out..

Re: 87 SS

Good luck big homie. I just found a GN rear for my cutlass yesturday evening and cant wait to get it thrown in. Let us know how the swap goes. A few fellow members on here told me that it should bolt right up but a shorter drive shaft will be needed.

Snatch it up!!! It was a direct swap for me. It's EASY to do. The hard part was using the braker bar to loosen the bolts. Having an impact gun and fittings is a serious help too. My boy that helped is a machinist. He would have had the whole thing done in 3 hours. I'm editing a day1,2 and 3 vid now. I'll post it up when it uploads....

Here's day 1 and day 2
