I've never seen that wire get tapped into for a power source, but Pontiacgp usually is correct. Just to be sure, I would use that test light to verify that it is only powered when the motor is running. If that's the case it's a great thing to know for future reference. Also once you are satisfied with the connection, I would solder it then shrink-wrap it and then tape it. Nothing I hate more than twist-n'-tape connections on cars. Stereo installers are the worst culprits at that.

the brown wire is tapped into to trigger the relay...and it looks like the relay is missing

you need to get a relay like this one and wire it like the diagram...the relay will have the numbers on it so you just use the numbers like in the diagram

So could I buy one from autozone?
Yep you can get one at autozone.

That's pretty much the only place I ever shop.
Mostly because they have cheaper prices or about the same at O'reilly's, and advanced.
So when I get up some money I will get that.

But, I put the shim on, no more hitting, starts up every single time.
Timed it and adjusted my carb perfectly, now its idling at a steady 10 and when I out it in gear it goes down to a 5.
So I put the trans vacuum line on and now it shifts perfectly and actually gets up as soon as I touch the gas.
I am officially done with everything now all I have to do is get small things.
First the relay, then a fan and a fan shroud.
Then I will be completely done and I will be ready for the road.

Here's a little video of it starting up first try and staying low on idle.

Sorry its so dark, I will get a better one but you can still hear what I am talking about.

Just watched some of your vids. Glad to hear it's running and driving. FINALLY haha. Now just remember all the stuff your learning. Once you start to get the hang of the little stuff your doing the bigger stuff won't seem so big. Keep at it, keep working on it and get it how you want it. Good Job.
