carb, starter and fly wheel problems.

OK so they cut the wires. (dicks) Do as Chris.O said and get a 12 volt test light. You needn't go crazy finding a wire, as he said there are several terminals on the fuse box that are switched 12v ignition. Just run a new wire and ground the other. The Q-jet electric choke has no gasket between the choke housing and carb so it grounds through the carb body. Yours wants a dedicated ground so just run a wire to the motor somewhere.

some chokes have two terminals on the cover. I had the cover with two terminals on a carter carb. I just grounded the terminal with a small wire to one of the screws that clamps down the cover

Yeah, I forgot there are some with 2 but honestly I've never seen one before. Were the 2 wired ones all aftermarket or did some factory setups use them too? What was the point for making some 2 wire?

It didn't look like it was an after market and when I got it I was confused why it had two terminals because I had never seen one before. The housing and cover were identical to the single terminal ones. The unit was would not work without grounding that terminal. It must have had a rubber seal or a fiber washer in the unit which prevented the coil from being grounded.

I just came across this diagram for the choke that does not power the choke wire unless the alternator is turning..

I got a test light, now I am just wondering how to work this thing i have been out before and it wont light up for me no matter where I put it.
my step brother fixes houses and had one where he needed it I guess to do some work at a house so i didn't have to pay for it but I do have to give it back to tomorrow or the next day so i need this done tonight.
Its this one so I assume not the best but I thought it would do, http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-Ele ... ogId=10053

So what I am wondering is how do i use it, is there a video I could see about it or instructions.
Thanks and sorry about the dumb questions just gotta get this done.

It wont work because it is not for 12 volts. I specified 12 volt system. Go to walmart or autozone. That is made for house voltage. They do not cost very much and really anybody that works on cars should have one since your car is gonna have a 12 volt charging system. It will be shaped like a screwdriver kind of with a long ground lead on it and the other end has a sharp point for probing wires.

Oh see he said it work, I understand and remember you saying It I even asked him if it was 12v and he said yeah.
But no wonder it wouldn't light up, sorry.
I know no one that actually works on cars, but I will just go tomorrow and get one from either store, most likely the cheapest place so i will make my day going to get that and then coming home and getting this done.

Thanks again and sorry for the mishap.

No reason to apologize buddy. Hope I didn't sound like a dick, just explaining to ya why it won't work. Typically those house testers need about 80-90 volts to light up. Thats way more than the 12v on your car haha. You should not have to pay more than 10 bucks for one so hit up walmart if the local parts stores don't have one for less. Take care.

No not at all I understand your helping me, And I appreciate that.
But I am going to check them tomorrow and get this carb done, and then get the starter bolts.
Then finally ride this car and just enjoy life with my favorite car.

David why don't you just use the ECM wire like I mentioned since it's a known 12v key on only source and save your money on the test light?
