Try the washers, if that does it, then get the correct length bolts. On your 85', there should be a combo oil/choke switch mounted somewhere. The electric choke wire runs to that. The gauge oil pressure is read from a sending unit elsewhere, that is usually near the oil filter.

Mark, on my 86 GP it had the oil pressure sender for the gauge at the filter and another two prong oil pressure sender just to the left of the distributor. One side was the brown wire for the oil and the other was the blue (I think or greeen) that goes to the choke

Yup, Steve, that would be it. There is usually an oil gallery plug right next to the distributor, another by the oil filter, sometimes one is up by the timing cover. My 229 Chevy V-6 had the oil/choke switch on or near the timing cover, can't recall exactly.

I seen a picture where its on the back of the alt, could I possibly put it there?

Do you have a 12 volt test light? If you do and you should, cheap and help you work on the 12v electrical system in your car. If you do just find a spot in your fuse panel that only comes on with the key on. When you find that spot run the positive wire to it from your choke. Voila your done.

I don't have one, but I guess I am going to get one so I know where I can hook this up.
I thought you would just put it somewhere and it would work, like someone have a picture I could see and then i could just stick it there.
that's why I am glad I have this site to come too.

You can splice it into a bunch of different places. All you need is a power source that is on only when the key is on. You could probably find something under the hood if you really wanted to. I just told ya about the fuse panel for simplicity.

If your original wires weren't butchered in the motor swap, the wire you need should still be there, ready to use. Closest manual I have is 86' Pontiac and it looks the same as all others I have seen. With a 3.8 and no gauges, the "engine oil pressure switch" gets a hot 12v brown wire from fuse block (C/H). It is piggy-backed to another brown wire that goes to the computer. It may or may not join exactly at the switch. On the other switch terminal, is a tan wire from the "engine oil warning" light on dash. That is piggy-backed to the wire you are looking for- the light blue choke wire. Those 2 WILL be joined at the switch terminal. All of these wires should be found on a female connector that has 2 cavities that belongs on the oil pressure switch. Look for the connector and there is your pot-O'-gold. If connector is missing, look for the stray light blue wire. Then you just jump the 2 terminals, and the car thinks there is oil pressure so the choke heater works.

I think he has a Chubby motor in a Cutlass that originally had an Olds. If that's true, it's going to be harder installing a factory Chubby style electric choke setup. All that needs to be done is splice the choke wire to a 12v key on source, like the ECM power wire and be done.

That's the point the guys tore every wire out, thinking I would never try to find another olds to make it more original.there is a little hole in my firewall like right on the side from the master cylinder, It has a screw in it with a wire going towards the master cylinder. would that be it?
