I got some more questions. Im thinking of going with speed pro .40 over pistons. What is the max compression I can go with if I wanna use regular 87 pump gas?
With todays shitty qaulity of gas I wouldnt try to run anything other then stock compression ratio of 8/8.5:1 With 9:1 you can run Plus or super but with regular 87 i wouldnt think about it. The octane in todays fuel is horrible. No performance motor should run on regular.

Update: Well I got the block back from the machine shop it was bored .040 over. The machinist asked me to ask the guy who I bought the block from did he have the oil pump. I asked the machinist why and he said that the engine had an external oil pump??? and then he pointed to the main cap and said that it had milled. Heres a pic...Do yall notice anything ??

I don't even know how to comment on this! This just SUCKS! This block this guy sold you that was supposed to be a ready to assemble with fresh machine work needs nothing. It appears to need a little bit of everything and now you need a new rear main cap and back to the machine shop for a line hone.
And what are those fasteners holding the cap on they look like cut down studs with nuts?

I still dont see why I cant go buy a new oil pump and slap it on. Can someone explain to me how this rear main cap has been milled? As for the bolts they come with the pos..I bought new ARP bolts. I guess ill call the machinist and tell him the guy didnt have the oil pump. What are my options?? Why would the machinist let me pick the block up if it isn't really ready?

They milled close to a half inch or more off it. The first problem I could see would be a custom length oil pump driveshaft. The second problem would be an easy fix but it would be getting a proper oil pump pick up. I have never seen anybody mill the oil pump boss off before. I don't know why they would. Your machinist should have an answer for you though.

I don't know why you would mill the rear main down either and also don't forget he will need a custom pick up tube since now the sump is a 1/2" further away from the pan lol, but seriously I don't see how you can use this rear main.

At this point you need to find another stock rear main cap for a 400 because if you dont already know they are not the same as any other sbc journal is bigger. Then send block back to machinist to have a line bore done this will fit the main cap to block and you should be good to go. The machinist in my opinion should have noticed this before doing any work and mentioned it before doing any work.

Thanks guys. I see how its suppose to look I only see one set on ebay guess Ill go for it...This is actually BS i feel like im getting f***ed all the way around. Then i have to take the block back to the machine shop thats even more BS.

He said that the engine had an external oil pump thats why he said they milled it down
